Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2017Good bones, needs work.
This is an Arnold Palmer designed course outside of Hilton Head. It's tough to review because the course was still suffering from damage done by Irma. I played this course several years ago and it was in very good shape. Now it is showing signs of neglect. The sand traps had not dried out yet a week after Irma. Most were unplayable Some fairways had bald spots. They had just changed management companies so hopefully the new managers can bring this course back.
Country Club of Green Valley
Played On 07/20/2016Wait for overseed
This course was in good shape over the winter, but now it is fairly rough. Wait till after overseed before playing
Preserve Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2016Interesting course, but out of the way
The course was nice, but no beverage cart. Sand traps were heavy and wet even thought I didn't tee off until 1PM. Good thing was plenty of water and ice on the course.
Tubac Golf Resort - Rancho/Otero
Played On 05/16/2016Nice course at a great rate
Grabbed a hot deal, so I got a great rate. I was golfing as a single, so they held a foursome for 5 minutes so I could get out in front of them. I caught up to one other group on the course and they let me play through on the next hole. The course was in great shape. The weather was good even though it was a little windy. Overall course conditions were very good.
San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2015Course coming back
This course recently reopened after being closed to replace the greens. The last several owners trashed this course and another in Green Valley. The new owners appear to be bringing this course back, but be aware that it's not all the way back yet. The fairways are in fair to good shape, most of the greens are in good shape except they are slooow. The sand traps are an embarrassment with lots of small and large rocks. They close for overseeding 9/16.
Canoa Ranch Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2015Slowly improving
This course has suffered over the last few years. The good news is the greens are in the best shape I've seen for some time. The sand traps were fair but the fairways were spoty.
Arizona National Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2014Bring extra balls
This course is back in good shape. Be fore warned that there are several holes with blind shots. You will definitely play this course better after a few rounds
Torres Blancas Golf Club
Played On 09/28/2014A work in progress
New management has taken over this course and are making a lot of changes. They have narrowed the fairways and reshaped the greens. The rough has become extremely punitive. The mowing in both the rough and the fairways was inconsistent. They close for overseeding on 10-01. Employees have been told that the course issues will be taken care of by the time the course reopens.
Quail Creek Golf Club - Coyote/Road Runner Course
Played On 09/27/2014Good challenging course, well maintained
The course had just reopened after overseeding, so it was cart path only, and will be for the next two weeks. The fairways were in great shape. The greens were still slow and shaggy on the Roadrunner nine. The pro shop closes early, and there isn't always a beverage cart.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 08/09/2014Good Course
This is a well maintained tournament level course(former home of the Tucson Open) The greens were in great shape. A few fairways showed the effects of the summer drought, but overall they were in good shape. It is a tough course and very punitive if you're not hitting the ball straight. Bring extra balls
Rio Rico Golf Club
Played On 11/03/2012Wait until January to play this course
There is a major problem with the greens. The course was neglected over the summer, with most of the damage on the greens. The new management is working on the course, but the greens won't be back before the 1st of the year.
