Recovering from a harsh winter

Course is a nice track although there are holes that go back and forth that make it a bit of a shooting gallery Overall conditions were mediocre as the course is recovering from a harsh winter with a lot of winter kill on fairways and greens. This is more a cosmetic than playability issue. The greens look horrible but they putt ok. Some of the greens were a little bumpy. One of the best fetaures of this course is the greens so hopefully they will come around. The eighth green was in very good shape and is indicatve of what the course is usually like. Pace of play on a Tuesday afternoon was 4 1/2 which was a bit slow for our group of accomplished golfers who play fast. We waited on every shot and never saw a ranger. Course has a good range and practice facility. One of the better practice putting greens around.

First Time Playing

An Old Gem

I lived in the area (within 25 miles) for over 20 years and this was the first time I played the course and I was very pleasantly surprised. It is a William Gordon design. He worked under Flynn and designed all three Saucon Valley courses as well as the The Stanwich Club in Greenwich Ct. I've been fortunate enough to have played all four of those world class courses and while LVGC doesn't have the budget or all the country club amenities of those classics, you won't be disapointed with the LVGC layout. it is an old traditional style course which is very tight in places and moderately bunkered. The greens have some good contour to them and are challenging. The course is a bit on the short side by todays standards measuring in at 6,700 yards from the tips. The overall conditions were very good for this time of the year as the grass has not really popped during a colder than normal spring. Greens ran true, Fairways, bunkers and tee boxes were all in good shape. I look forward to playing it again soon

if playing for the first time, take notice of the approach to the eigth hole to your right while playing the first hole The eight is a blind tee shot and the fairway goes down hill to the eight green.

Quick Round Nice Conditions

Course was in good shape overall. Tee boxes fairways and rough we're very good. A few of the greens were a bit marked up especially #3 a long par four that gets a good amount of third shot wedge play. This is more on the golfers who do not repair ball marks than it is on the staff. Fairways are open and generous without much trouble coming into play. Always a bailout side to avoid bunkers. Courses real defense is thick but not tall rough and the wind which was down when we played. Saw the ranger quite a few times and can only assume he was doing a good job as we played in under 4 hours teeing off at 3:20 on a Friday. Overall I recommend. This is course that charges weekend rates on Fridays.

Long Weekend Round

This is a Kelly Blake Moran design (also did Lederach and Heritage Creek in the area. ) This is a very hilly course with huge elevation changes. There is a par three with a 140' drop and numerous other holes with drastic elevation changes. It makes clubbing a bit difficult for those without local knowledge. The overall course conditions were pretty good with thick rough, tight fairways, nice greens. Some of the white tee boxes were pretty chewed up but we played the green tees (one set back) and they were in very good shape. There were no championship tees so the tees were back on most holes with a total yardage in the 6700 yard range. I used every club in the bag. The hills begin to get a little old on the back side and by the fifteenth hole we were both pretty spent even though we took a cart. We did not see a ranger until the 16 the green and pace of play was over 5 hours. The cart girl made it around 4 or 5 times during the round. This is NOT a walking golf course, unless you have Sherpa in your blood. The bar staff was very nice and quick to serve. Good selection of on tap beers. Have the Dales Pale Ale you won't be disappointed.

One of Florida's Best

I've played the World
Woods Pine Barrens course about a dozen times and it never disappoints. They have had some challenges over previous years with flooding but they have done an extensive renovation of the waste bunkers that included new drainage systems. So far so good. The course is uncharacteristically hilly for a Florida course. It is a great layout and challenging with all the waste areas. Each hole does have a bailout or layup area for those of lesser skill. Course conditions were excellent. My only negative was the speed of the greens... A bit slow for my liking probably running at about 8. The staff is very friendly, especially the bag drop guys. I always get into a golf discussion with them.

Nice layout country club atmosphere

I played the north course and the conditions were good to very good coming off a wet summer in the area. Some standing water but not much. A real nice layout. There are 36 holes and both courses are challenging and well kept. Semi-private and does have a country club feel to it. Nice range, club house and pro shop..

Recovering from a harsh summer

Tee to greens are in pretty good shape. The course took a pounding this summer with all the rain and named storms that move through the area. The waste areas are in bad shape but they are trying to repair them. Hard to stay ahead of the storms. They are in the process of re doing the bunkers / waste areas and installing drainage. All that said I would play it again tomorrow. A real nice layout with undulation that is uncharacteristic for Florida courses. One of my favorite Florida courses.

Good track nice conditions

Ive played river strand a half dozen times. Always good conditions. They have 27 holes and use the extra nine to their advantage when scheduling maintenance They will take nine holes down for a couple weeks at a time and let the course recover before putting it back in the rota. Sanctuary is my favorite nine Estuary is most difficult and longer than the other two by a few hundred yards or more. Great staff very friendly. Good deals in the off season played in september for $25.
