South at Boulders Golf Club & Resort
Played On 05/10/2016Wonderful AZ Golf Experience
My wife and I had the pleasure of playing the south course in May. the weather was low 80's and very pleasant and the course was in fantastic condition. the fairways are lush and the greens roll true - but they are tricking, with lots of subtle undulations. Most of the forced carries over the desert from the mens tees are reasonable but be mindful that balls anywhere near the desert are truly gone.
Boulders is a great golf day!
Ko'olau Golf Club
Played On 02/05/2016Insanely difficult when in perfect condition - but too much mud for now
My wife and I played in early Feb - and this course is every bit as tough and unforgiving as all the reviews say. You had better be long and accurate off the mens tees - there are several forced carries where you are driving through a hole in the jungle. Bring plenty of balls - even when you see the ball jump into the grass or jungle and you KNOW where it is, it's gone.
Overall, the course has the most spectacular views of the mountain range on almost every hole and it winds up and down through the jungle. Unfortunately, the course condition due to all the rain pretty much made the back nine unplayable. You hit a good drive, you're sitting in the fairway - but it's all mud underneath the dense "cow grass" and just walking to your ball is a challenge.
It would have been nice if the proshop had shared just how bad the back nine was but that's life. We recommend that you wait until April or May when this thing dries out a little. the way it was in Feb is just unplayable.
Golf Club at Vistoso
Played On 03/01/2015outstanding course!!!
this is one of the best courses my wife and I have played in Tucson. the staff is incredibly friendly and let us move our time back a day to avoid cold weather.
Course is challenging with the forced carries but fair and reachable. 17 is just a bear.
Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course
Played On 01/26/2015Great Place to Play - Desert Golf without getting beat up
My wife and I played on a cloudy, slightly cool day. We didn't even see anyone in front of us until the 13th hole - so we were cruising along and ended up finishing in 3:15.
Course was in excellent shape but the greens are really tough to read - lots of little, subtle breaks. Not too tough for a 16 handicap from the middle GRAY tees, but it would be a BEAR from the tips. Just enough desert to be fun without feeling beat up. Only a couple forced carries.
McDowell Mountain Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2015Nice track for a day out
The course is in pretty good shape, not super-tough for an average golfer. Lots of trouble in the fairways, you need to stay on the short greens. Really tough to hold the greens with anything more than a short iron, need to take 1 less club
