A fine golf course

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. Except from the machine at the clubhouse, the bar, or the cart young woman. I was really speaking about the ponds that dominate the landscape. A difficult course due to the water, narrow fairways and strategically-placed bunkers. The course is immaculately groomed, real sand is found in the bunkers, and there are tees for every level of player. The only hiccough was the shortage of carts, requiring us to wait at the cart staging area for close to 15 minutes before we were assigned one. We were assured this was an anomaly and our experience in the times we have golfed here concurred.

Premier Facility

This course is semi-private and has obviously been given TLC. The fairways were green and healthy, the roughs, the same. The greens were immaculate, fast, and full of subtle and not so subtle undulations. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although the clubhouse is for members only, buying a golf round will get you access to the bar and dining room where a delicious meal can be purchased for a very reasonable price.
This course did not have a lot of play when we played and the round went quickly with no waiting. This may have been partly because the weather forecast wasn’t great and in fact, it started raining lightly the last two holes we played.
Really enjoyed the experience.

Cow pasture without the cows

If you are looking for a place to play golf cheaply, this fits the bill. Although, in fairness, the greens were well cared for, the rest of the course looks poorly watered, poorly fertilized and generally, pretty neglected.
The fellow in the ‘pro shop’ stood there shoving peanuts in his mouth as he checked us in, and mumbled something which was unintelligible. The staff member who took the cart after we finished was pleasant and helpful, allowing me to use the washroom in the cart barn because the ‘pro shop’ was locked up tight when we finished our round.
Not a place I would return to quickly…

Good course to play

Aside from the few holes adjacent to the sewage treatment plant (pee-ew!), the round was good. Lots of dog-legs, fairways were wide and in good shape, some tee boxes on par 3’s were pretty chewed up (didn’t seem to move tee markers onto grassier areas), greens were in immaculate condition, although very slow. The carts were gas powered - electric would have been more environmentally friendly. The course is directly under the airport flight path, so if very frequent jet engine roar from landing planes bothers you while you are swinging, it’s not the place for you. The ladies in the pro shop and snack bar were beyond nice and helpful. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

What a difference a week makes

Last week - perfect. This week, well that’s a different story.
Tee time was 12:07. There were no power carts in the lot when we arrived. Starting groups had to stand around and wait, finally being assigned carts once finishing players came off the 18th hole. When we finally got a cart, the seat on the driver’s side was horribly ripped and the foam beneath it gouged out. Tee times were running almost 30 minutes behind. We stopped after 12 holes because once we actually teed off, it took us 4 and1/2 hours to get to that point, and we had dinner reservations to get to. The restaurant was not open. A cooler with sandwiches for sale in the pro shop yielded an egg salad sandwich whose bread was wet and the egg tasted gross. Three and four groups on every hole, with no ranger to deal with the situation. Starters tried to cope with the cart disaster, but it was VERY disappointing…

Super pleasant surprise

We have played this course numerous times over the years. The condition of the course has never been nearly as good as it is now. Fairways are lush and green, greens are impeccable, and considering the interest shown by a multitude of golfers, the pace of play was not too bad. Clearly, a lot of TLC has been given to this course. The starter was fun to talk to while we were delayed in starting about ten minutes. The only knock I would make is the bunkers. They were dirt, not sand, with the consistency of concrete. Fortunately, my presence in them was limited.

Sloooooowwww

If it hadn’t been such a good green fee, not sure I would have played there. The greens were half good, half in need of major work. The pace of play was awful. There were three groups on each hole, resulting in waiting on every tee. The young man loading/unloading clubs was Johnny on the spot and very pleasant. The outdoor snack bar was closed by the time we made the turn, so that was a disappointment. I had just joined Golf Pass and contrary to what they promised, the course had no scanner to scan your membership card to provide in-course discounts, so that was a bust. There you have it…

A delightful little course

Really enjoyed playing this course. I didn’t give full marks for layout because on most holes, when you are on the tee, you are directly in the line of fire from those playing the previous hole. If I could have, I’d have given 15 stars for staff friendliness. We were disappointed that the restaurant wasn’t open after our round. We would have liked to eat dinner there. Only the tiki bar was open, but it was very chilly outside and we didn’t want to spend any more time outside than we had. Great little course to play to sharpen your short game!

Zzzzzzzzz

So painfully slow. At least 5-10 minutes wait at every tee. Despite the sign in the cart promising to move slow players, there wasn’t a ranger to be seen. Made me grumpy and wife didn’t appreciate it…

Simply beautiful

Not for the faint of heart, this course is tough and demanding. The greens are impossible to read. When you think you are putting uphill, it’s often downhill or vice versa.
The course is in immaculate shape and a pleasure to play. There were a number of large areas of ground under repair which made it difficult to play, but on the whole, it’s great value for the money, especially given that it is a municipal course.

A nice course

We just arrived from up North and hadn’t played in over 3 months. We played the East course. The course layout was pretty average, although it seemed that the holes were long. (One par three was about 210 yds. The fairways were in good shape, but the greens were slow, slow, slow with a few patches of weeds here and there, but not bad. Not much water to worry about.
The starter was very friendly and well organized. We paid for 18, but only played 9 because it was later in the afternoon and we had dinner plans to get to. The green fees were very reasonable so we didn’t feel like we overpaid for a short round.
The pace of play was amazing for Florida - no one in front of us, no one close behind. All in all, an enjoyable round

Fun to play

We have played this course several times. It has been carved out of an immense forest. It is interestingly laid out and it’s possible to play without losing a ball (if you don’t hit them into the woods of which there is plenty). The greens hold well, and the fairways are cut to allow roll. Avoid the rough as it is fairly long and thick and will stop your ball quickly. Cool bridges across low-lying areas. One of the bridges is very, very long providing a pleasant ride through pretty, dappled forestry. Despite a few low spots which retain rainwater, the course is in excellent shape and a joy to play. Unfortunately, the pace of play was quite slow and since I don’t like to wait on every tee., that detracted a bit from the enjoyment. The snack bar in the clubhouse has limited food selection, so don’t expect to have much choice for a lunch break between nines. Although this sounds a bit picky, we love this golf course and will definitely return often.

A great little course

Only 5482 yds from the white tees, a delightful round with some tree-lined fairways, challenging greens and although some fairways had grass clumps from cutting, good maintenance overall. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We lucked out in that there was a shotgun tournament just finishing up when we teed off, so with no one in front of us, the two of us finished the round in a leisurely 3.25 hours. I was expecting the usual slow Friday afternoon round and was very pleasantly surprised. Love this course! And, of course, Ann Arbor, a great place to have dinner after the round, is only 10 minutes away.

Very Pleasant

Obviously, this course is a bit tired and underwatered, but, what neglect the fairways, the tee boxes and the rough suffer, the greens are second to none. Conditions are tolerable for the average golfer, and certainly good value for the money. There were two walkers in the foursome ahead of us, which may have slowed things a bit, but nothing too serious. Not sure if this is allowed in high season (it shouldn’t be), but we played April 3rd.
With the green fees come either or both breakfast and lunch from a buffet that is well put together and extremely well done. The staff from the pro shop to the cart folks and the food service are welcoming, friendly and attentive.
We were told that there would be a shotgun group of 32 people starting behind us. We were assured that they wouldn’t interfere with our game. They didn’t and it was very impressive that a staff member rode out to us as we completed the fourth hole to make sure we were finished before they started..

Much improved

This was the first time in several years I had played this course and was pleasantly surprised at how much better maintained it was. The fairways had grass in them and the bunkers had good fluffy sand (hard to hit out of them, but that was me, not the bunkers. The greens are lightning fast, taking very little to send the ball whizzing past the hole, until you get used to them. I’ve always liked the layout of this course - very challenging and interesting.

First Class

While I don’t normally pay this much to play a round, it was a nice treat. Exquisitely maintained and a good test of all aspects of the game. Some greens were on the smallish size, and some huge, but all required a good read and a deft touch. The greens were a lot slower than they looked, requiring some adjustment in thinking. The foursome ahead of us kept a good pace and we were done 18 in a little over 3.5 hours. Probably on a par with the best courses in this area.

A fun course

This is a fun, yet challenging layout. There is plenty of water, sand and difficult lies. There are many sloping, undulating greens, which make for many three-putts. Fairways are pretty tight, for the most part. The only poor aspect of the layout is on the 10th and 18th holes. The 9th hole was reconfigured to carve out a driving range, resulting in a severely shortened 9th hole, and the need for golfers finishing the 18th hole to drive down the 10th fairway while others are playing it, to get back to the clubhouse. Seriously dumb! A few of the greens were unhealthy and in need of repair. On the good side was that the green fees were so low as to make you wonder how they make any money. Talk about good value for the money!

Good course

Challenging, yet playable by golfers of all abilities. Fairways amply wide, greens well taken care of, although a tad on the slow side.
Could use an outdoor ice/water machine. Lakes on #14 are bone dry, with cracked river-bed-looking bottoms and aesthetically ugly with old sheets of plastic liner hugging the upper walls. If you should hit it in there, the drop zone is a piece of artificial turf! Made an otherwise nice hole shabby.
Overall, however, in good condition and value for money is good.

Delightful course

Challenging holes, with bunkers front and center at each green. Course layout is excellent, although green to next tee often requires long drives through the residential streets. Fairways and greens were well watered and manicured. There is a fair amount of water on most holes, but fairways are wide enough to avoid most trouble. Did not stick around to try out the 19th hole, but it looked like it would be a pleasant place to spend time after a round.

Semi-disaster

First time visitors to this course. GPS took us to Palm Desert Country Club, which is similar in name but not the one. They gave us bad directions to the intended club and after a wild goose chase,, arrived 20 minutes late. The staff were good enough to accommodate us and had a staff member lead us to the second hole where we butted in to a group just arriving at the tee! After finally settling down a few holes later, we began to evaluate the course. The greens were painfully slow, but in excellent shape, the holes were long (rare to hit a green in regulation from the white tees). We played behind four one-hundred year old men who moved pretty slowly. There were no cups to take water along and only one drink station with cone shaped cups on the front nine -none on the back and no potty on the back nine either! There was not much excitement to the course, save for a few longer shots over water to the green. Perhaps the stress of arriving late put a damper on my enjoyment. I would give it another try to see.
