First trip to myrtl beach for me and my wife.We decided to try this course because it was close to our rented condo.Saw first hand how crowded courses are here in myrtl beach this time of year.Got there bout an hour before our tee time.Place was crazy busy.Had to wait till about 15min before tee time to get a cart.Staff was cordial. So we hit a small bucket and putted to kill the time till we could load up.We were paired up with a single( local familiar with the course) and a young guy/ mom who was passenger only.Great company during our round.Just wish the course was as nice.Greens were Slow!! Might have been fertilized or sanded or something..not sure what.Layout was ok..nothing to write home about.Sand traps ok too...for a 50.00 plus fee this course could use some TLC. I would not play here again but would look toward eagles nest as something way better for less money.Dont mind spending money for courses that show better conditioning.Have a few weeks in myrtl to make other comparisons.Being down from MI this was our first play since last fall up north..so it was just ok as a warm up round. One and done for us...looking forward to other courses in the area

Played On 09/17/2023Spectacular resort course
Decided to play this course at last minute while in the gaylord area.Golf now had a hotdeal midday on a sunday.Arrived about an hour and a half early after a 4 hour car ride to get there.Check in staff saw it was my wife and I as a two some. They had a larger group heading out in about 20 minutes and they asked if we wanted to go out before them or wait.We said we would go...THANK YOU!! We took off and were behind a 3 some that were in no rush.Course pace is 15min per hole and we ended up right on that time when finished.Might have been 15 to 30 min faster if not for the slower group in front. But to be honest this course is a feast for the eyes!! Simply stunning...hole after hole.Overall conditions were excellent...only knock is that Sandrtraps were a bit rocky.A decent amount of small to med pebbles were my only negative on this course.Greens were undulating and quick...a real challenge but fun and fair.A course at this price level...90.00 ish on weekends or more could look to improve sand conditions.A 4.5 hour round goes by quick when you are playing a course that has a little of everything...including plenty of elevation changes to treat those who take on the challenge.Highly recommend. If you can get it booked under 75.00..don't think twice..less than stellar sand traps or notf

If you are ever in the St.joseph area of Michigan put this course on your must do list. Top shelf from the time you arrive till you drive away.Interesting that mid may fairways still had aeration holes that really never caused an issue since they were starting to heal.Greens rolled fast and true.Dont think there is a flat green on this course..so try and note that on the warm up putting green.Beautul course..nice manicured bunkers made for an enjoyable 4 hours for me and my wife.If you can get on for under 80.00 here..do it..you will not regret it.This is a well thought out design that is a pleasure to play.First time playing but hope to make another 3 hour drive sooner than later. This to test my skills now that I have some familiarity with a few holes that sight lines were a little unclear.

If you like old school country club courses..you will like this one.Not long by today's designs by any stretch. What this one has is narrow tree lined fairways with small fast running greens. If you can hit a fairly straight ball..this is your course. For a course that dates back into the late 1800s it is a throw back to golf of another era.Sand traps are ok and do need some help.According to a local member we chatted with..that trap work is on the list...just a matter of $$$ when it moves forward.Staff at check in we welcoming and they seem to appreciate returning patrons.Love this course and the fast true rolling greens are a magnet to bring me back

Always a pleasure to play this old country club. Staff is always pleasant and cordial. Pace of play here can be very fast or a bit slower. It only takes 1 group to slow the pace. It was busy this day and we played at about 4:20 pace. This is not far off the recommended time.Narrow fairways and little higher cut rough increases the degree of difficulty. Starter said they were preparing for an amatuer tournament in the coming weeks so they were notching up the degree of difficulty a bit..especially the green speeds!! Very quick!! Alot of fun since I tend to like those more than the SLOW ones. I try to play this as often as I can because it offers a great challenge even though it is not the longest in distance. In my later years I can appreciate courses in the 6300 plus range being made harder by increasing green sppeds and allowing the rough to grow a bit higher. Greens are also fairly small in size so it does require an accurate approach shot to score. Some sand and water come into play on several holes to add to the challenge. If you are near this course..play it if you like old school courses that challenge you to use all the clubs in your bag...

Played On 03/17/2022Great course off I 95
Last year my wife and I played(another course) with a canadian couple and the wife was adamant that the fox club was not a good course. So this season we decided to try it for ourselves. It was one of the nicest we have found here in central florida in 4 years of coming down in March from michigan. Our tee time was around 3 ish, We arrived and were cheerfully greeted by the cart guys as well as in the pro shop. For some reason they were not busy and they said we could go when we were ready,So we got out about 2:15. No one was in front of us and we have a couple guys behind us that we were able to easliy stay in front of. We got 18 in 3 hours and 15 min!!! Course was in great shape tee to green. Greens were very fast and firm,,,high appraoch shots would hold...lower shots would hit and roll off the back. I burned the edge of the cup more than I care to remember and the ball would just keep rolling Sand traps were decent to play out of without alot of gravel that I sometimes encounter..Play the right tees for your skill level and the course is a blast. Play the wrong tees and there are alot of forced carries that will cause one to lose alot of balls(water or natural vegetation waste areas). If you are near this course...highly recommend..Hope to play again soon
Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round, rdkng00! We look forward to seeing you again soon at The Fox Club.

Played On 03/23/2021Decent Florida track
As snow birds we are visiting south florida for the month of March from Michigan. Found this course on Golf now as a hot deal.Easy check in and carts had GPS which was nice. We were paired up with a nice couple from Nebraska. We finished 18 in 3 hours and 40 minute,,,not bad. Pace of play was excellent and the course was busy, Fairways and rough were hard to differentiate. So wayward shots were not hard to find or hard to recover from. Greens were quick and ran true. Downhill putts were quick and uphill ones required a little more effort to get them near the cup.Our 4 some burned the edges of the cup more than I care to remember!! One 5 star item about this course was the sandtraps...they had the nice white powdery sand and were very nice to hit out of(although I was only in 1 during this round)..All in all this is a fairly typical course for florida. You can do better by paying more...but for around 40.00 bucks for golf this time of year its not bad.Fairways were a bit like hardpan in alot of areas but I attribute some of this to a fairly dry period here in this part of Florida. Super low handicappers would probsbly find this a bit easy. Decent track for a reasonable price for thiis time of year in Florida....

Happened to be staying in Hendersonville NC for a week long family reunion in mid july. Discovered this course on golfnow and decided to give it a try. Booked a great hot deal about 5 days before we got there. The weather was supposed to be in the high 80's and out tee time was a little after 1pm. Checked in about 12:30 and the gentleman in the proshop greeted us and said once we loaded up we could head out early..whoohoo!!. The visual appeal of this course hits you as soon as you leave the pro shop. This is mountain golf at its finest. Front nine seemed to be in the "valley"....and the back nine was in the upper moutains with spectacular views!! Nothing like this in my area of Mivhigan so it was a real treat to have discovered this track'The tee boxes/fairways/greens were in GREAT shape. Greens were quick downhill and the up hill putts took a bit more oomph to reach the hole. The one negative about this course were the sandtraps. A bit overgrown with weeds and not great sand to begin with. With a little TLC I would give this 5 stars. If you want to experience mountain golf and are in thi s area...it is worth the time/money especially if you get a nice weather day.

Decided to try a new course a little out of the way. My wife and I drove about 45 minutes from our home to try this course. We got a good price on Golfnow for a little earlier morning tee time (9:20 ish )to try and beat the afternoon heat.We got there about 40 min early to check in. We were warmly greeted by the check in staff. He said we would probably be paired up with another twosome. no problem and then he said since you are early if you are ready now go ahead and head out!! And he said since it was Monday he gave us two tickets for free hotdogs at the turn or after our round!! whoohooo off we went. We played 18 in about 3 hr 20 min. Pace of play on the card says 4:10 so we were very pleased. We caught up with a single on hole 5 and followed him and several foursomes in front of him for the remaining 13 holes. The course was pretty wide open overall. Not to much of a penalty if a shot strayed a bit right or left(rough off fairway was cut a little higher but was not punitive as it was not too high or thick)....a good scrambling recovery shot could make up for the errant prior one. Sand traps were OK ...at least the sand did not have much gravel/stones as some courses seem to have these days. Greens were in good shape and putted true. They had noodles in the cups(covid thing these days...but they did have trap rakes set out...hmmm... Green speed was OK...not overly fast but not molasses slow either. I prefer just a little quicker myself. We recorded our lowest scores of the season which was a pleasant surprise!! So if your are in the Ann Arbor/Saline area....this course is worth up to about the mid 20's for 18 w/cart for sure. There are several higher end courses around Ann Arbor that offer a tougher test with a bit higher cost...pick your poison. This course was a nice change for us. Hope to get back for another 18 and a GOOD hot dog!!

Played On 06/18/2020Nice Downriver course!!
First time golfing this course. Found it on golfnow and added bonus was a good price as a hot deal. Tee time a little before 9 am on a weekday. Staff at the counter was friendly and the course was set up to comply with these new covid rules for golf courses. They had plastic barriers to divide the cart. But since it was me and my wife the barrier was not a specific requirement, but would work if I had been golfing with a buddy. Surprisingly we were able to start about 20 min early. I expected more play with an early tee time. We played in 18 in about 3 hours and 20 min. The course was fairly wide open overall. But I must say the best thing were the greens. Kudos to the maintenance guys that take care of this. They were true and rolled nice...quick but not unfair.!! This course is built in the shadows of a landfill which might be a negative to some. There was no noticeable odor at this time anyway...but might be IF the wind blew in the wrong direction from time to time. Seems this course has 3 9 hole courses...Red/Gold/Blue....We played the Red/gold on this day. Would play again for sure

Played On 03/10/2020Great Potential!!!
Got a great hot Deal with even a better price using some reward points and was pleasantly surprised!! Staff was friendly from check in to the cart guy then the starter. We were about half hour early for our tee time and the starter said we could go out as a two some and that another twosome should be off the first green by the time we got to the first tee...THANK YOU!! We played quick thru 6 holes..then a course staff cart came by and said we could join a couple in front of us on the next hole since league play was going to slow things down in the next few holes. So we were paired with a nice couple from Montreal that made our occasional waits more palatable. That being said we played 18 in a little over 4 hours so it really was not that slow. Had we had no one in front we probably would have been done in 3:15 to 3:30 hours..soo could have been worse time wise. Seems this track has been purchased not that long ago and seems like the new owners are improving the weedy fairways. A lot of tight lies here as seems to be the case on the majority of Florida courses that I have played to date. The greens here were fast and rolled true...thought there were slight breaks when putting now and then... was not the case!! burned the edge of the cup more than I care to say. Playing a course for the first time is always a bit of a challenge anyway but I hope to get back to this one soon to see if I learned anything. Give this one a try if you are in the area..hopefully things will only get better going forward
Dunes at Sandridge Golf Club
Played On 03/09/2020Great Florida course
Got a great deal on Golfnow with rewards points that I used for my wife and I during our stay in Florida for the month of March. The parking lot was packed and the cart guys seemed to be busy getting people set up and out. Staff was friendly and seemed to appreciate the business. We were paired up with a pleasant couple that made our round that much better. The wind was relentless in the 20-30mph range so that made a challenging course that much more interesting!! Greens were quick and rolled true.. in comparison we usually golf courses in Michigan which vary greatly in how fast or slow they are. So far our 6 or so rounds in fla this month.. indicate the greens down here are fast...I would guess a 10 or better on the stimp...no official confirmation of that just my opinion. This course seems to be county owned If I understood correctly. They have 18(Dunes) and 18 (Lakes)...this review is for the Dunes. There hasn't been much rain here so far and the fairways were pretty dry with a lot of tight lies where club/ball contact was critical without much of a chance to take a divot. Traps were decent...not the best I have seen nor were they the worst..Will have to try this course again with a lot less wind to test my skills again soon
West at Inverrary Country Club
Played On 02/27/2020Old Florida course
While spending several weeks in Florida to get away from the Michigan winter...my wife and I decided to try this old florida course. We had to drive about 40 minutes south on I-95 to get to this part of florida We got a decent price on Golfnow and were paired up with a couple of local guys who were a lot of fun to chat with between holes. Pace was decent at right around 4 hours. One could tell this course back in the day... 80's thru early 90's ...was probably top tier. however, time has taken its toll on the overall property. Some of the adjoining homes/condos looked like they were empty and rundown or in need of a lot of TLC. Same could be said for the course. There is a West and East course. We played the West. So these comments are about that since I was not able to play the east this time down to Fla. It was mid 60's temp and a liitle on the windy side due to recent storms and a cold front passing over the area. The fairways were a bit...er a lot weedy with no real change in grass height for the "rough".... it was all pretty much the same height. The greens were pretty "quick" and rolled true with small blotchy areas here and there. The sand traps were a bit gravely for my tastes...a few too many small rocks and pebbles for my liking. One could hit out of them just the same. This track could be a very nice one again but substantial money would need to be injected to make that happen. Not sure this could and will happen since I am not that in tune with the florida golf scene. One should consider this course if in the Fort Lauderdale area...just don't set your hopes tooo high....cause if you are expecting high end resort golf...this would not be that place. But if you are looking to play on the cheaper end of the scale. this would be a good venue.. Must say the staff from check in to the starter were very cordial and seemed to appreciate the business..shout out to our playing partners.."FIREBALL!!!!" if you happen to read this comment..:)
Hawk Hollow Championship Golf Course - Front 9/Middle 9
Played On 09/01/2020Stellar golf course!!!
Decided to make over an hour drive out to the Lansing area to try this track. Few years ago golfed a sister course(eagle eye) and was looking forward to seeing what hawk hollow was like. Arrived almost an hour before our scheduled tee time in hopes of beating some rain reported to be headed toward Lansing. We we're warmly greeted by staff and checked in. We we're given the green light to go whenever we we're ready. Pace of play was excellent.. My wife and I were able to complete18 holes in 3hrs and 15 min... Whohooo!!! The course was immaculate from tee to green. The rough was cut a bit higher and did penalize a shot that was not in the fairway. This set up was perfect and a fair yrst of ones golf shots. This rough near the greens cost me at least 3 strokes as it snagged by wedge and caused an errant shot. But that is fair all things considered. Greens did not have a flat spot on them. They were very undulating and offered a good putting challenge. Greens were quick but not like concrete. Course layout was very eye appealing and my wife and I both thought it was worth the hour plus ride to play this course. Sandtraps were good and only found myself in 1 green side bunker the entire round. This course also has an 18 hole putting course from what we saw but with weather being a concern we chose to not investigate that further. So we would highly recommend if you have the chance to golf this course.. You do. You will not be disappointed. I hope to get out there and eagle eye again in the near future
Devils Lake Golf Course
Played On 10/24/2019Hidden Gem..Would play again
Trying to fit in some late fall golf my wife and I decided to drive over an hour to the Irish Hills area near Jackson MI. The fall foliage colors were in their prime. The temp was little over 50 degrees with little wind thanks to the golf gods. We were greeted warmly by a female staff member that could not have been nicer. She said we were clear to go when we were ready with only some mens league groups ahead that had been out for awhile already. This was out first time playing this course so we proceeded not real familiar with the lay of the land. Front 9 was decent with rolling fairways (since it is in the irish hills afterall..;))...Greens had their fall aeration about a week earlier but were healing nicely without a lot of bouncing when putting...so far so good. The back nine was a liitle more challenging in my opinion..a little more rolling of the fairways and several blind shots. Not a lot of water or bunkers...overall...seemed to be a pretty fair challenge of ones golf skills. Was only in 1 trap and that one seemed to have decent sand quality in lieu of some I have played that were more like a small gravel pit. The greens all seems to be slanted a bit back to front for the most part. Putting speeds were moderate in my opinion...not the fastest nor the slowest. But the front to back slope and some side slope offered some putting challenges in keeping the ball near the hole on a missed putt. some rolled 3 ft or little more down away from the area around the hole. The best part we finished in 3 hours flat!!And NEVER caught up with any of the prementioned mens groups.. A nice course that one should play in ever in the Irish hills area near Jackson..I hope to return again next golf season It was a bargain as a fall weekday HOT DEAL!!
Crown Golf Course
Played On 09/08/2019Nice course in the Traverse City Area
While on a week long golf getaway with my wife in northern michigan...we decided to try this course while in the Traverse City area, Our tee time was 11AM on a sunday(hot deal from golfnow...and applying a few 10 off vouchers...it was a deal at 19.00 each) and we were not quite sure what to expect for this area on a weekend as far a number of golfers. Since it was after labor day..this particular sunday was not jammed. The pleasant counter guy checked us in and said after a few groups took off we could go...this would be about 20min before our tee time...and so we did. We played 18 holes in about 3:40 minutes..GREAT for a weekend and we were pleasantly surprised. The course was is pretty good shape..in spite of the new home construction going on around several holes...Greens rolled true and were quick...a fair test of ones skills..... One pet peeve of mine is that. alot of golfers DO NOT repair their divots in the fairways or the ball marks on the greens..alot of courses including this one would be that much nicer if some golfers were a bit more courteous. There are some nice elevation changes on this course which my wife likes as much as I do...This course should be on anyones radar when visiting the Traverse City area as it will be on ours ...

Have not played this course in over a year. Got a good deal on Golfnow and decided to try it again. Was quite busy mid morning on a monday but the pace was OK.. We were done right at 4 hours for 18...not tooo bad. What WAS a pleasant surprise was the over all condition of the greens and the speed that the superintendent set up. They rolled true and just quick enough that our group even thought they were fast!...Just had to start the ball on the right line as you did not have to rap it to reach even the longest putts....especially the down hill ones...Kudo's to the great work the grounds guys are doing...keep it up!! And on that note also had a cutting crew member help me find my ball on one hole since he saw where I landed as I could not since it went over a large tree and I never saw it hit the ground,,,Keep up the good work...we will be back!!!
Thanks for the review and rating of us! We love hearing back from our golfers after their round and are so happy that you enjoyed yourself here! Thank you for the raving review of our course conditions and staff here at Whitmore Lakes! We look forward to having you back again soon.
Barnsley Resort
Played On 02/26/2019Great Course....Little different golfing in late February
Being from michigan(not much golf here until April most years if we are lucky)So.me and my wife decided to stop in Georgia to golf on our way to Florida and stumbled on Barnsley due to a good hot deal price....They said they have had ALOT of rain early this season. We were fortunate to hit there between rain storms with low 60's temp...lucky us...but we were informed it was cart path only.Well understood. The staff was VERY friendly and greeted us warmly. This is a resort type enviroment....From the range thru the course it was first class!!...The ONLY WEIRD part for us from the midwest...the fairways were brown and Dormant and they paint the greens so as to make them more visible..a different look to say the least...but after playing we still give this a 5 star rating and were left wondering what it would be like once everything "greens" up to normal...Even this early one could tell the greens were fast and had subtle breaks that were a bit hard to see until after you had hit your putt. So a little extra time on the practice green would help put your mind in perspective
Whispering Pines
Played On 09/16/2018great course...if there are no weddings/outings that day
This was the second time we played when there was an outing before us. The first time they added 25 more people to the outing which delayed our T-time at least an hour. When we came around they did offer a free beer for the delay. Now this time there was another outing and was delayed 1/2 hour. The problem was the ranger had mentioned there were players in the outing that took 3 1/2 hours to play 9 holes which meant it held everyone up right from the beginning. There was a foursome in front of us that followed everyone and they also took forever to play. It turned out to be a 5 1/2 hour round for 18 holes. There was no ranger coming around that could have moved things along faster. It was very frustrating and would like to see them give more time in between outings and regular course play. We will not be playing on weekends anymore but the course is nice enough to enjoy a round on a weekday without having any outings or group play that delays you and ends up being a 5-5 1/2 hour round.

Played On 09/26/2017WOW!!!! Golfing at its best!!
This is one GREAT course. It was about a 45 minute drive for my threesome to get here..but it was sooo worth the drive. We had a 3 ish tee time. Got there about an hour early and the guy we checked in with said they had 12 guys starting about 2:30 so If we wanted to get out ahead of them..go ahead..THANK YOU!!! We did just that and had a spectacular afternoon. We finished in right at 4 hours..not bad since we were not familiar with the course at all. Some shots it would have been helpful to know the "lay of the land" but it was wonderful to experience this great track.Downhill putts were tuff to stop near the hole and the uphill ones needed a nice little tap to get them near the hole. A playing buddy thought MAYBE they had been sanded with in the last few weeks but could not say for sure as nothing was readily visible. Sand was nice to hit of of with just a few stones/pebbles noticable..nothing worth griping about. There is some nice elevation to several holes and added to the day even though it was in the 90's (for late sept gof in michigan..go figure)...One thing we did take note of and it is to bad and not a fault of the course at all...Golfers PLEASE DO NOT throw your beer/soda/water containers along the cart paths into the brush!!! How people can be so inconsiderate just blows my mind.If you are ever in this area...get a tee time..you won't be disappointed. We hope to patronize this course many times more in the future.
Hi, Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Washtenaw Golf Club.
