Hawaii Country Club

i didn't bring clubs, and hadn't really planned on golfing, this (family) trip. But, when the kids wanted to go the wet & wild water park, I found myself searching for options close by. I found a 28.00, 18 hole with cart, at Hawaii Country Club. It was about 15 minutes away, and I just couldn't pass. Arriving at the club house, I found a super helpful friendly check in fella. Clubs & balls 30.00. He even gave me a nice course map. Waiting at #1, (wife was 10.00 on ride along). I was going to let a young guy golf through. After some friendly chat, we decided to golf together, him being a local, and playing it all the time, he had great recommendations, and what to expect at each hole. The first thing you should know are the greens aren't great. Not the lush greens you find at the $$$$ courses. But, the course plays nice, and if your a little rusty, and want to swing, I recommend it. We could stop and talk, without the usual pressure from behind. We caught up to a 4-some, that waited to let us through. My only regret, was that the kids called, and I had to bail out after 9. Our friendly guide said that the back 9 had really nice ocean views, and was bummed we had to bail. If you want to have fun with family or the buddies, I highly recommend a round.

If you want to hit the ball, have fun, and not drop 100 bucks, hit this.

Got a good deal on hot deals. I hadn't been to this course before, an thought I'd give it a try. Friendly staff. Unfortunately, a major rain early morning had a few of the back nine to wet to play well. But overall, loved the pace of play. No back up, or push. Most fairways well kept. Greens average.

Almost every hole has you questioning if you should drive, or play it safe. At every tee box, the sight gives you the yardage to "Ravine". Bring lots of balls, and have fun with it! This course has you reaching for your camera as much as the next club. Truly, beautiful. The cart path on the back nine is like a trip through Jurassic Park. We saw more wild boar than golf carts! There was some improvement construction going on, but don't be deterred. If you have limited golf time on vacation, this would be the must golf course. Highly recommend this course. The cart guys meet you at the parking lot, and take good care of you. Pro shop guys were very helpful too. If you want beer, bring your own cooler. They will ice down beer in a plastic bag otherwise. Like all four courses I golfed on this trip, No beverage carts! Must not be the thing at Honolulu courses.
Makaha Valley Country Club
Played On 4/11/2013Nice course
I hadn't ventured to this side of the island before. Was well worth the drive. The course is nestled in the valley, and nice views at almost every hole. This is great course, and pretty forgiving, while still offering challenging shots. I was golfing single, and met up with a local couple behind me. The wife dropped off at 9, and me and Joe played the back. Great conversation with a local who lived the Makaha life style. Golf & Surf. How cool is that?
Hawaii Prince Golf Club - A/B Nines
Played On 4/10/2013Nice open fairways
Well maintained, open play. Only complaint would be getting caught behind hotel guests, that move at a snails pace. No marshaling to encourage faster play. I got out with a lady before the shuttle pack started. We finished the B& C courses with no one in front of us. Coming back to return the cart, we were told that the group was on pace for a 6 hr. round! Luckily, the staff was really cool, and let us go hit A. We got four more holes in before returning to the club house. One thing good about this course, is you can catch the shuttle at the Hawaiian Prince for 20.00. Their right at the Marina. Saved on car rental. You don't want to cab to very many Honolulu courses. $$$$$$
