Foothills Golf Club
Played On 03/24/2017Excellent Comeback
Had not played her for a few years when the maintenance was down, but the course has been brought back to life. Fairways were fine and greens good, with very, vexingly, challenging pin positions. Wind complicated matters as I am an AZ golfer used to perfect conditions. My bad.
I had written off this course but will be sure to come back now that it has been nicely resuscitated.
Golf Club of Estrella

This course has a very nice layout with plenty of trouble available. Hot and humid the day we played, and a rare slow group in front of us, but still a fine day of golf.
Good mixture of holes and hazards, requiring at least decent planning and control. There is a price to pay for almost every bad shot. Sand was a bit inconsistent in traps, but I sampled too many. My bad. Afternoon tournament induced difficult pin placements. Lot of fun, if you like difficult fun. Strongly recommend. Bring your thinking caps.

Topography similar to but hillier than Aguila, with excellent views. Play was about 4:15 on a busy Saturday. In the normal range. For 30 bucks in high season, this is a great value. Fairway markers minimal, and my GPS did not work, but I will definitely go back.
Cart service adequate. Staff helpful. Ongoing improvements at some tee boxes. 2 of us played with two very pleasant people.
This will be in rotation with muni courses like Kenny Mac, Aguila, Dobson.

This is a gem buried away from the beaten path, but it is well worth the drive. Doglegs, hazards and hills abound, making some interesting and challenging shots necessary. The greens are fast and challenging. Every bit a Troon course, with outstanding services and the best summary from a starter I have ever received. Ongoing nearby construction is not a problem. Soaring hawks, roadrunners and gophers galore add to the outstanding vistas.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 3/31/2013Always in good shape, with lush grass. Many traps and grades causing challenging shots.
I like to play early and especially in the summer, sunrise is the limit. We early players are generally quick, and rounds often are completed in less than 4 hours. The back tees are good length, and many greens are on grades, soaccurate ball placement is necessary. It is better than many courses with higher ratings. It gives a fine workout and is among the best dollar values in the valley. I often play with strangers, and I haven't met an objectionable person yet.
Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club
Played On 2/11/2013well above average. Prices maximized during spring training.
I have played this course about monthly for the past 5 years. It is generally well maintained, of medium difficulty and a good workout for any level player. It has a reliably pleasant atmosphere and offers varied terrain and grass lengths. Traps are well maintained. Standing water is sometimes problematic after rains. I particularly appreciate the opportunity to tee off at sunrise. A solid grade B course, excellent for most golfers.
Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park
Played On 2/10/2013Distressed course
I came away sour because the grass was lousy. The fairways needed toupees or comb-overs. But then I thought, what if I was a really good golfer wanting to practice shots off hard tack and bare areas. This would a bonanza for such a player as 50 percent of shots were distressed. I doubt I will return, although the layout and the surroundings are more than adequate. Good place for a good player wanting to practice these specialty shots. Traps were good, greens fair.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 10/5/2012This is a great course. Play it whenever you can.
Late season before reseeding but sa always the course was in great shape. This is one of the best run facilities in the valley. Such quality isn't cheap but it is still a good value.
