Beautiful Jamestown Park Photo submitted by celebrte1 on 09/22/2017
Jamestown Park Golf Course
Played On 09/20/2017Perfect conditions and day on the links
Jamestown Park is always wonderful to play, featuring the BEST greens for a public course in the area. Since they redid the greens to Bermuda a couple summers ago, they are smooth and fast, providing opportunity to sink some putts.
The value on Golf Now at $21 with cart is outstanding. Conditions from tee to green are excellent. Scenery and challenge enhance the golfing experience. My pace of play of play was under 4 hours, joining up with a single golfer due to the foursome in front.
The staff is always friendly. The pro shop is well stocked. The grill is always good.
I would highly recommend Jamestown Park Golf Course to everyone. Well done!
Oak Hollow Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2017Great weather, enjoyable round, terrible greens
Played Oak Hollow on a great GolfNow value at $20 per player with two friends. Perfect day in the 70's (temperature, not score) for August!
Always a great layout, very scenic. Pace of play was great, playing in under 4 hours. Greens are in the worst condition in the 20 years that I have played at Oak Hollow. Very marked up for some reason. They may need to shut down next summer and rework tee to green conditions, like other courses in the area. Grass is very spotty on tees.
Staff is always friendly. Only Pete Dye municipal course in the state and great value always. Very scenic.
I would recommend this course to everyone.
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club
Played On 07/29/2017Superb conditions, great views
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club is in the top 5 North Carolina public courses for me. The reconditioned layout is superb, with scenic views, challenge, fairness, and playability. The front nine fairways need another cut. The tees and greens were fine. The back nine was outstanding from tee to green, immaculate. Great value on Golf Now, with my additional $10 off coupon from customer loyalty.
The staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. Patrick was great in confirming everything for me over the phone. Ian greeted us in the pro shop very well. Jimmy made a superb Arnold Palmer drink with refills.
The group we were joined with (they permitted my wife to ride FREE as a non-golfer) all played from the same tees (senior), making for an enjoyable round. Only criticism, pace of play was slow, taking 5 hours for 18 holes.
We will back. I highly recommend the Preserve at Jordan Lake to everyone. The only Davis Love III design in the state, is uses the land perfectly, with lots of elevation. Perfect lead-in to our Wyndham Championship next week, where Davis and his son Dru will play.
Thank you.
Forest Oaks Country Club
Played On 01/25/2017former PGA tour course-excellent value
It's great that Forest Oaks is open to the public. As a former course for the PGA Tour, it is wonderful to play the same layout. The value on Golf Now was fantastic, $17 with cart. I was joined up by a nice player, with his mom going along as an observer.
Course conditions are good. Fairways are a little spotty. Greens were fair but quick. It will take a few times to become familiar with the contours. Could use maps of each hole on the tee. No indicators on the scorecard. Challenging to navigate for someone not playing there on a regular basis.
Staff is friendly, with a well-stocked pro shop. Pace of play was good, playing in 4 hours on a beautiful 70 degree January day.
Only negatives...... we had a 12:12 tee time and didn't go out until almost 12:30 due to the backup on the first tee.
Also, after clearly having no one within 2 holes of our group on the front nine. A twosome caught up to us on the back nine. They had to start at the 10th hole, not a good idea on a crowded course.
I would definitely include Forest Oaks in my rotation of courses locally any time there is a deal online.
Definitely recommend the course.
The Challenge Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2016summer golf
The Challenge is an excellent public course. The conditions are good. Value on Golf Now was $20 with the booking fee player. My buddy and I went out as a twosome and played in under 4 hours. Greens were spotty and swarming with what turned out to be cicada killers. They buzzed my friend a few times. Very scenic holes, including #15, a par 3 over water. Staff is friendly. I have played The Challenge twice this year and multiple rounds previously. I would highly recommend this layout.
Jamestown Park Golf Course
Played On 04/04/2016Great walk in the park
I played Jamestown Park today as a walker with the senior rate of $12 for 18 holes, an excellent value! The staff, especially Michael, are always friendly and helpful. The pace of play was great, 3 1/2 hours for the round! It is a challenging course, with many hills to test a walker like me. # 3, 6, 10, and 11 are all uphill holes. #13 is a great par 3 with great sight lines. #14 reminds me of Pinehurst, with the pine trees lining both sides of the fairway. The course is in good condition, the fairways a little spotty, and excellent greens with a lot of slope They are closing the course for work on the greens in May and will reopen in the fall. The clubhouse is being renovated and will look nice.
I highly recommend Jamestown Park as a good public course with beauty, challenge, great staff, and reasonable green fees. It is convenient for me.
This is a great public course with sets of tees for all skills levels.
Thank you.
Oak Hollow Golf Course
Played On 03/18/2016great senior value
Oak Hollow indicated that they just punched the greens and offered a walking 18 hole senior rate of $13, an excellent value. The conditions were excellent. I got out as a single ahead of two foursomes. The players assistants, especially Jay on the first tee, are very friendly. The staff checked me in promptly. Where else can you play a Pete Dye municipal course in North Carolina? Nowhere!!!! The women in the grill provided a nice Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade) at the turn for a great price. I enjoyed my round. Pace of play on weekdays is great, getting around in 3 1/2 hours!!! I would highly recommend Oak Hollow to anyone seeking a quality round of golf at a reasonable price, with great conditions. The scenery is terrific, especially holes 4-6 around the lake. Thank you.
Jamestown Park Golf Course
Played On 02/01/2016winter break
Played Jamestown Park on a beautiful winter day in the 60's. Course was in good condition, cart paths only due to previous rain. A lot of walking to the fairway. Staff is very friendly. The value on Golf Now was terrific. Highly recommended this layout for beauty, challenge, and playability.
Wailua Municipal Golf Course
Played On 09/09/2015Excellent views
I played Wailua for the first time in September. Was joined up with a guy, same first name. This round was meant to be. For under $50 with cart (wife riding for FREE), this is an outstanding value!!! The twilight rate after 2 p.m. , when I played, is a fraction of the almost $200 to play onsite at Princeville, where we stayed for the week.
Wailua is a player-friendly course, allowing spots on each hole to safely play to. The conditions are excellent. The views are amazing, with 3 holes along the ocean. The 17th, a downhill par 3 with the Pacific beckoning, is THE prettiest hole ever!!! My playing partner and I both hit our tee shots onto the green, scoring 3's!!!! This is a spot that you stand in awe, bring your camera (see attached photo), and count your blessings for this game!!!
The staff is friendly and provided a great full set of rental clubs. I would highly recommend this course to anyone.
Blair Park Golf Course
Played On 02/02/2014Winter Golf Experience
Blair Park is a good public golf course, offering challenge, value, and a friendly staff. I played Blair Park as a single, with my wife riding for FREE as a non-golfer. Rachel and Doug were friendly pro shop staffers. Rachel provided a discounted green fee of $22, less than my online price. The tees and fairways, combined with light rough, were in good condition. The greens were excellent, very smooth and consistent. I played well for a high-handicapper, with the course being receptive to running shots. At the turn, we took advantage of the $3 grill coupon. We had a delicious grilled cheese sandwich and hot chocolate. Tammy and Grace were the friendly women behind the grill. Blair Park provides and overall excellent golf experience for a municipal facility. I would recommend Blair Park to friends and family. It is worth a return visit!
Greensboro National Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2013Course has outstanding value.
Greensboro National Golf Club has outstanding value, beauty, condition, and challenge. The course is a delight to play. The greens have improved since the last time played earlier this year. The staff is friendly, pace of play was under 4 hours by myself, with my wife riding (no extra charge). The hot dogs at the 19th hole are terrific!
One criticism.... the bridges taking carts over to fairways at most holes are very loose. This could be a safety problem if not fixed.
Overall, I would recommend Greensboro National.
Gillespie Golf Club
Played On 6/16/2013This course is in excellent condition.
Played GIllespie Park on Father's Day. Wore a golf hat from Redbird Golf Links in Sapphire, NC, where my Dad, brother, and I played in 2009. It was our last round together. My Dad was 89.
Gillespie Park is in GREAT condition. Played for $12.60 and walked 18 holes. This is a nine holer, with different tees for each nine. My Dad was with me in spirit, guiding me to better shots, with 5 bogeys and 1 par, not bad for a high handicapper.
The staff is very friendly. Met a former colleague from my office who does the carts on weekends at Gillespie. One criticism..... the ranger came to me on my 13th hole, an uphill par 4. I was flagged for slow play from the group behind. They just came to the tee when I was on the green. I putted out and picked up my mulligan, walking diagonally to #14 tee. What the group behind didn't see was the twosome I caught up to. I was keeping a pace of under 2 hours per nine all day.
Once the ranger realized that I was playing at a good pace, they
warned the group in front. This was the only snag for the day. I took a deep breath on #14 tee and continued to hit pure shots!
Gillespie Park is an excellent municipal course, with friendly service and constantly improving conditioning. I would recommend this course to family and friends.
On the morning of the final round of the U. S. Open, it was fitting to play golf. My Dad and I went to my first U. S. Men's Open in 1974 to the final round at Winged Foot. Great moments on golf courses!
Thank you, Golf Now!!!!
Asheboro Country Club
Played On 4/21/2013The course has great greens.
Asheboro Country Club is a delight to play. The staff (Rex) is very friendly and makes you want to come back. The course is in excellent condition. Asheboro Country Club is beautiful. This is my second time playing there. The pro shop is well stocked. The cart's GPS helps navigate the course. A bonus for me was taking photos of the adult and baby horses on a farm off the 3rd tee. A great overall experience!
Winding Creek Golf Club
Played On 4/07/2013Course has great greens.
Winding Creek was a fun playing experience. The staff was very friendly. For my first time, it was challenging to navigate, even with the yardage book. Lots of blind shots and severe lies for a high handicapper (me). Overall, a good experience. I would recommend that everyone attempt to play this course a few times to gain knowledge of the terrain.
Oak Hollow Golf Course
Played On 9/17/2012Excellent value, service, and condition.
Oak Hollow is always my favorite course in the area. The conditions were outstanding, value terrific, and the staff was
very friendly! On a weekday afternoon, the pace of play was quick!
I would definitely recommend Oak Hollow as a MUST PLAY in the Triad!
