Like fog?

This is a wonderful course when you can see it. The fog in the morning was so intense I couldn't see more than about 100 yards, so tracking the ball was an issue. I couldn't tell if the par 3s were clear from the tee box. Don't go in the early morning is my advice.

Greens very good, fairways so-so.

Greens are in good shape, but the fairways have places with no grass, thin grass or dirt lies.

Aerated lumpy greens

Eagle vines is a challenging, interesting course. The greens, however, were sub-par. They were lumpy, slow and inconsistent. The young man in the pro shop said only "three or four" had been aerated about a week earlier, but our experience was that with few exceptions they were unmown and very slow and bumpy. The last couple of greens had not been aerated and were much better, but by then it required yet another adjustment. Great course, but call beforehand to make sure they're not doing maintenance before your round.

Easy front nine, more challenging back.

The front nine were pretty straightforward, but I had to go up to look at where to go on the back. You couldn't get in much trouble on the front. Greens were slow throughout.

Pretty good, but the sand traps are like cookie dough.

Foxtail is a pretty good course in pretty good shape, except the sand traps don't have sand in them, exactly. It's a mixture of clay and sand that you could make pottery with. You can't play a sand shot because the club just bounces on the clay, so you have to play it like you would off asphalt. They really need some attention from maintenance to make them playable. My friend said it's like playing out of cookie dough: sticky and unpredictable. If you play Foxtail, avoid the traps as it is at least a one stroke penalty. Or take a drop as you would from an unplayable lie; they're that bad!
