Green Valley Country Club
Played On 10/31/2020Great layout and challenge
Played from blue tees which per card is 6,600 yards long. Several 400 plus par 4’s which play every bit of it. The greens are very tough with good speed and much slope to them. The course is in pretty good shape with crab grass present throughout but not too bad. I believe it is worthy of play and the cost is very much affordable.
Deer Island Country Club
Played On 06/21/2020Nice Track and Moderate Challenge
I've played this course multiple times and this time it was in the best shape of all. The fairways didn't have much, if any crab grass as in the past. The greens have come a long way from previous times played two, specifically two of them, Par 4 fourth and the Par 5 twelfth holes. The pro shop has been moved to accommodate the new social distancing guidelines to the large bar/snack shop. The food menu has been reduced down as a result of the times we live in with COVID, but the staff was friendly and eager to help. I fully recommend you play this track as it was a fun round on my Father's Day.
Mayfair Country Club
Played On 07/16/2017Superintendent Needs to Get Working
Worst shape I've seen the course in. Way too much crabgrass on the fairways and tee boxes, if they had grass. Greens were the best part of the round so current team doing something right. The pace of play was excellent as we teed off at 7:20ish and got done right at 3 hours (twosome). Guys in front need an etiquette class though. Kept leaving flags barely in holes so they were leaning and they were loud with no regard for anyone else on the course (not Mayfair's problem). Overall "fair" but they have had this course in much better shape and hope it gets back to it.
The Champions Club at Summerfield
Played On 03/18/2017Worthy of Play
We enjoyed our round very much. The pace of play was super fast, less than 4 hours to get round in after starting as foursome but finishing as twosome due to person injuring shoulder. The greens were so nice and true, quick and with subtle challenging breaks. Some tee boxes were a bit chewed up but rest of course made up for it. Par 5's were long enough from blues with bunkers protecting greens. Par 3's were long except for one which played 130ish. Lots of marshy areas, which made tee shots a challenge if unfamiliar with course. Overall a very nice track to play and enjoy a great round with friends or family, even if paired to make new friends.
Zellwood Station & Country Club
Played On 02/05/2017Pleasant Surprise
Fairways and greens were over-seeded which is nice this time of year. The greens had decent speed and fair, not overly undulated. The fairways were in good shape and the couple of bunkers played were nicely raked and sandy, not dirt. Staff was friendly, but could have informed us on the usage of flags signifying when safe to play since a few holes had blind shots. The play was very slow as the six-some playing in front of us was totally wrong, but the perfect weather helped us get over it; more than 4.5 hours to play a 6,000 yard course is too long. Overall a very nice course to get swings in with a 115 slope which offers a good challenge for higher handicap (>12) players.
Ravenwood Golf Course
Played On 08/02/2015Excellent!
From the drive up to the course I knew this was going to be a great place to play. The attendant came to me since I didn't bother to stop at the bag drop and was very friendly. He told me I would love the place and he was right. The course was in excellent condition and service was expedient and friendly. Had a good breakfast sandwich before the round and hit the range. We started off the back and got in the 9 holes just over 1.5 hours, but at the turn we got held up on number 1 even though the marshall held the tee for us as a twosome. After the eleventh hole we paired up with another twosome and really enjoyed the round from there as the pace didn't seem as slow. This course is a must since it is very fair as long as you don't miss the generous fairways by too much.
Island Oaks at Lima Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/25/2015Good Course
The Island Oaks course was in excellent condition. The greens were fast enough to be challenging by making you concentrate and committed on the line or you will miss on the edges as happened to me. Fairways were in great shape. It is a good enough challenge with very fair length holes, unless you are one of those who likes very wide fairways throughout so you can boom it. The course is worth a try for anyone enjoying a round with water, strategically placed bunkers, tough greens and narrow fairway challenges. Hit 'em good!
Lakewood Country Club
Played On 06/28/2014Great value for mature track
Course was in much better shape than recall from round several years ago. Greens were very hard though and wouldn't hold shots so better play it short if you don't spin it. However, they were in great shape and with plenty of speed. The golf now rate is very fair. Be warned, the blue tees are very long for all par 3 holes but not much of a difference for all other holes.
Old Orchard Country Club
Played On 06/27/2014Nice track
Old Orchard is a mature course with a set up. We from the white tees, which play just over 6,300 yards. The course was in very good condition with slower than I like greens. The only thing I can complain about is the 5th hole, which has 2 potential greens to play depending on time of year a local explained. The reason this is a problem has to do with GPS. Mine locked in on what I later determined to be the shorter green because all of us came up 10 to 20 yards short on our approach shots. The other disappointing thing was not course related but the bar was closed when we finished around 6:30.
Thank you for visiting us at Deer Island Country Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
