Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
Played On 05/16/2022looking better
This is the best Hillcrest has looked in the 8 years I have played there. Tees, fairways, and greens are very good. Still too many bare spots around the greens though. Several leaks in their irrigation. They have for the first time ladies tees moved up that don’t measure 5400 yards. That makes it more enjoyable for my wife. We will play Hillcrest more often now.
Willowcreek Golf Course
Played On 05/22/2019Fast greens
The last 2 times we played were both at Willowcreek. The greens roll true and are VERY fast. If you play fast greens all the time you prefer them. We don't, and I am 3 putting more than usual. Pace of play was outstanding. Staff are always friendly.
North Golf Course at Granite Falls Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2018Plush and green
If you haven't played the 4 courses at Sun City Grand lately you are missing out. The fairways are thick, plush and green. 5 star. The rains this summer have made the fairways by far the best in the 7 years I have been here. Tees, greens, and bunkers are worth mentioning too. All excellent. The many fallen trees have been cut up and removed in a very timely manner.
South Golf Course at Granite Falls Golf Club
Played On 09/11/2017Greenest I've seen but no pro shop
I have played all four of the courses at Sun City Grand and they are all the greenest I've seen them in the 6 years we have been in AZ. The August and September temps have been below normal and there has been more rain than usual. The pro shop has been closed for a couple of months and everything is handled out of the turn snack shop. There is no timetable for it to reopen either. It has been sitting with NO work being done! The lack of initiative to get it done keeps this course from a rare 4.5 to me. But I came for the golf and it was excellent!
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 09/04/2017Elevations unlike anything in Arizona
Other than #9 green and a 4 hour 15 minute round this was as good of an experience as can be expected. 3 of the 4 par 3's had dramatic drops to greens. The fairways, tees, and greens were exceptional. The fairways were wider than I was expecting. There was GPS on the carts. Choose the right set of tees for your first time here and I guarantee you will have a good time. Staff was exceedingly helpful. Can't wait to go back although overseeing is only a week or 2 away.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 08/31/2017Best condition
The Canyon course at Ventana Canyon was possibly the best conditioned course I have ever played on. No lack of watering here. Everything was plush and thick. I have played in Orlando, Miami, Tampa, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Palm Springs and none were in this good of shape. What makes it harder to believe is it was the middle of Summer in Arizona! Can't wait to play again.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 08/31/2017Maybe the best course I have ever played.
For the last day of August. In Arizona. This course was green, plush, and in unbelievable shape. No lack of water here! Thick, fairways with few bare spots. This may be the best conditioned course I have ever played. Definitely for August. Been to Orlando, Miami, Tampa, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs. None compare to Ventana Canyon and the Canyon Course. Also played Marana. This course is better.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
Played On 08/11/2017Better than last year
I live in Phoenix, and my wife and I travel to Palm Springs in the summer every year. Indian Canyons South course conditioning is improved since last year. Tees, fairways, greens all better. Wet towels, a starter, and a beverage cart girl were all in place. My wife also liked the fact that the ladies tees distance was manageable instead of 5500 yards you see at some courses. Will be back.
Shadow Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2017Short surprise
This course was fairly narrow and 5400 yards from the back tees. Tees, fairways, and greens were excellent. Sand traps had plenty of sand in them. I was not used to playing such perfect lies on fairways. I used driver on only 5 holes. Others required placement for better second shot to greens. Will play again!
Palmbrook Golf Club
Played On 08/06/2016Green and plush
Fairways, tees, and greens were thick and plush. Unusual for Phoenix for August. You could tell they were being watered extensively. Also had quite a bit of rain the 2 days prior. Greens were rolling true but slow. Free range balls and cups with ice and water was very nice. Cart person brought my cart to the pro shop door as I was checking in. Staff and grounds very nice.
Corte Bella Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2016Ice on a hot day
Ice machines on the course were well placed. Corte Bella is on it's way back. Looking forward to playing again.
Westbrook Village Golf Club - Vistas Course
Played On 08/27/2015Course was green.
You could tell they had been watering regularly. A worker was going around and watering bare places that had been cut too short by the mower. VERY green for Phoenix area in August.
Willowcreek Golf Course
Played On 07/21/20153 or 4 fives ones in a row.
This course is my favorite in Sun City. Fairways are wide and well maintained. The grass is green from either the recent rains or it has been over seeded and watered. Thank goodness we didn't catch up to the 3 or 4 fivesomes that were allowed to play back to back until the last 4 or 5 holes.
Riverview Golf Course
Played On 10/27/2014Nice and wide
I like this course because of its wide forgiving fairways. You can spray it around a bit without much penalty. It is nice and green with slick greens. It is hard to find a course with greens that undulate as much as Riverview.
Pebblebrook Golf Course
Played On 09/15/2014Nice and green.
The course was green and in excellent condition. Greens were slow. My only problem with Pebblebrook was the course at 5700 yards was too long for my wife. We saw no other women there. I rated food and beverage 4 only because we didn't purchase anything.
Copper Canyon Golf Club - Vista/Lake Course
Played On 09/04/2014What great conditions
It's a Troon Course. I have never played a Troon course that wasn't in top condition. The greens were the fastest I have played on in a good while. They also held shots well and I had to actually repair a few ball marks! The cart attendant was very helpful, as it was our first time playing this course. It now moves to the very top of my list of favorite courses in the Phoenix area.
Sun City Country Club
Played On 08/18/2014Like to play here.
SCCC has enjoyed the recent rain to the area. It was nice and green. I enjoy playing here because of the nice wide fairways. Hit a bad shot and you will probably hit a tree or have a tree in your way. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Pace of play in the early afternoon was less than 3 hours.
Deer Valley Golf Course at Sun City West
Played On 10/21/2013Groups were back to back to back
The grass couldn't have been any greener or thicker. The course has just reopened after over seeding. Everyone wanted to play today and it made for a very slow round. We were not able to finish with a 2:07 tee time. Greens were very slow but there wasn't a bare spot anywhere. The head starter couldn't have said less to us upon arrival. I know he was the head starter because his shirt said so.
Tuscany Falls at PebbleCreek - East Course
Played On 10/3/2013First time at Tuscany-Pebble Creek
This course is unusual in that they are using plenty of water to maintain great conditions. Tees, fairways, and greens are excellent. It is not easy to find the first tees on the 3 9 hole courses but we were able to eventually. Pace of play was excellent and we really didn't see anyone until the 15th hole.
Sun City South Golf Course
Played On 9/23/2013Love this course
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. It has about the widest fairways you will find in Arizona. Pace of play was about 3 hours. Greens were average speed but in excellent shape. Same with the plush fairways.
