Better than par for the course

If you are playing this course for the first time, you need a playing partner who has played the course before to help you around the course. First, and most important, you need a cart on this hilly course that has a ton of mileage between some of the tees. You are crazy to walk this course. There are a number of holes where course knowledge is crucial. One hole (on the difficult back nine) has no sight line to the fairway. You drive across a canyon of trees and brush with only a tall pole on the far side as a guideline. There are other holes (most on the final nine) that also need that local knowledge, where to drive it and what club to use -- crucial on each hole. Aside from that, this can be a fun course to play, as long as you don't mind a strong ocean breeze in your face late in the day. The fairways are good and the greens (on this day) were on the soft side with lots of spike marks -- thus too many putts bumping along. Best to play this course in the morning and make sure you take a cart. it's a fair test, one that will drag you back. Definitely worth playing, and look for special afternoon deals that can save you upwards of $25. If money is no object, get an early tee time and enjoy yourself. The Blue and White tees are good tests.

Up and down

The day didn't start out well when my playing partner backed out, due to a bad back. Thus, I got stuck with both green fees ($58 total including booking fee) because it was a Hot Deal on GolfNow.com. Then our threesome was stuck behind three women and a guy, none who had any business on this course, which is not for beginners. The front nine is hilly and somewhat tight with plenty of slopes on the fairways and greens. The back nine is flatter, but has one uphill par 4 followed by a downhill par 3. These two holes backed up quickly and golfers had to sit around. Bottom line, the course can be nice (when it's not too windy) if you get a decent price. I wouldn't pay $50 to play here (I can pay that at Poppy Hills). There needs to be more time between the tee times.
