Course in great shape

Played Oak Glen and it was in great shape. Fairways were mostly immaculate and greens were pure although a little slow probably due to the rain. A few puddles in fairways and rough but that was to be expected. It was walking only which I was happy about since cart path only slows everything down. Not many people out there and finished in just over 3 hours for an afternoon round. First time playing it since the updates and overall I thought they did a good job with it. However, I think some of the trees they removed took away some of the shot making strategy. The only gripe I have is that they are putting in a bunch of mulch in the areas they took grass out of and I think it looks terrible. The mulch is filled with trash and they are laying it down real thick and lumpy. The course is green and the mulch gives it a bad aesthetic. I think if they were trying to go for something like pine straw or wood chips it should be a thin, smooth layer that can be played out of. They’re putting it down several inches deep and it’s not even whatsoever. I don’t know if they cheaped out on it cause the amount of trash mixed in with the mulch is gross looking especially for a course that asks for over $100 on weekends.

Decent layout

Played this course after some rain so muddy conditions was expected. Staff is friendly and course layout is not bad but unfortunately I have never played a course that I would consider to be a cow pasture more than this one. Everything was actually green but there was no fairway or rough. It was all one cut and the ground was almost unplayable due to the bumpy-ness. Tee boxes were in pretty rough shape and greens were playable but still pretty rough to putt on. Driving range is not bad with covered and uncovered stalls with $5 tokens but most of the balls were in rough shape and dimples being mostly worn down to a flat surface. I’m new to PNW golf so not sure if the ground gets smoother in the summer but I left after 9 holes due to how muddy and uneven the surface was. I’m surprised they allow people to play this time of year. Could be a decent track if everything was smoothed out and reseeded or sodded. Wanted to like a small town course but unfortunately I won’t be back.

Beautiful Location

The course is built in a valley in the badlands with a few holes actually going up into them. Really beautiful views and the course conditions were nice although wasn’t amazing or quite as nice as you would think for the $100 price tag. The layout was ok and the few holes that actually meandered through the badlands were holes 14, 15 and 16 were beautiful but not actually very good holes. I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend playing it but if you took this layout, minus the 3 badlands holes, and put it anywhere else in the country, you would say the course is just ok. Personally I wouldn’t say it’s a top 100 public course and the only reason they can charge $100 is because it’s location with no other options around. That being said, still fun but would be a solid 5 Star course if it was $50.

Pretty solid course

Nice course set on a beautiful piece of property. Layout was good but not amazing. Conditions were also good but a bit wet still from the rains last night. Only disappointing thing was that they sanded and put small holes in the greens recently. Apparently they sand the greens every couple weeks which seems a bit overkill to me but I’m not a superintendent. They must know something that all other courses don’t but hey they still rolled alright. Not the easiest of walks but definitely doable. Played it for the first time which will probably be enough for me unless someone who invites me really wants to play there. Better courses out there for the money but overall a very good course.

Great views, a little dry

The course was fun and not a bad layout. Had some tough holes especially with the wind blowing fairly hard. I’ve never played it before but it seemed like it was probably a lot drier than normal. Fairways and rough were burnt out in many areas. The greens weren’t extremely fast but were in nice shape and rolled true. Can definitely hit a lot of bump and runs here. The course was constructed mostly in the grasslands so there weren’t really any trees and didn’t quite feel like a mountain course besides the fact that there were great views of mountains in all directions. I think the price was a little steep for the conditions but I would say when that course is in better shape it’s worth the money. They also have the golfboard which looks like a lot of fun. It’s more expensive than a cart but I might come back just to ride one of those. Overall, good course but would rather spend my money at Pole Creek if I’m ever back in the area.

Fantastic value!

The Knolls is in fantastic shape and has some of the cleanest and best manicured fairways and greens in the Denver area. Probably the best value for normal pricing that I’ve played in the Denver area. The greens are smooth but not quite as quick as the Dunes. A much more relaxing round of golf than it’s Pete Dye counterpart but still had its challenges. Hit ‘em well and you’ll score well but a few errant shots will really cost you. The course is a lot of fun and the only non-positive thing I could say about it is that it could use a little more fairway undulation and bunkering. Other than that I absolutely loved playing here. Will be back soon.

Terrible layout and terrible players

I guess I should preface this with the fact that I should expect poor players on a 5,000 yard course but holy cow, I guess this is the course to play if you can’t break 150. Literally not an exaggeration, I saw some of the worst golf from a lot of players. Course layout is terrible which adds to the wait. Par 69 at 5,000 yards from the back took 5 hours to play. I mean there’s a par 3 that you have to hit over boulders that have an arrow on it to direct you where to hit. So wonkey. Course conditions were not good either. Will not come back to play this course. The only good thing is that the course has great views. I guess if you’re a VERY high handicapper, it wouldn’t be so bad.

One of the best in the Denver area

Have played here a few dozen times now since moving to Colorado. Still have a lot of courses to play but this is definitely my favorite course in Colorado so far. Rates are more than fair, conditions right now are top notch, the layout is great and the pace of play is always quick. In California, this course would be well over $100 but I walk here for $41. The front 9 is probably my top 5 favorite 9 holes and the back 9 is great as well but runs through a housing complex so the feel is not quite the same as the front where there aren’t any houses. Greens were immaculate and quick, fairways and tee boxes were perfect. Can’t say enough great things about this course. I think it’s the hidden gem of the Denver area because a lot of natives I know have never played it. It’s a bit out there but worth the drive.

Great Value

This course has amazing views and was in very good shape. The greens rolled very true. Fun layout with some really good holes and some quirky holes with some weird sight lines from the back tees. The greens are way old school sloping pretty hard from back to front on many of the holes. They will be renovating soon which I hope will bring out the true potential of this golf course. A good layout now but if modernized correctly without ruining it's original character, this course could be one of the best values in the state. Definitely give it a try.

Very good links course

Since moving to Colorado, I have found that a lot of local courses tend to be a bit flat and boring. This course is not that and has a lot of character. The front nine is especially fantastic with no houses whatsoever. The back nine has a little different feel with houses surrounding most holes but is still a good layout and probably a little tougher. The course conditions are top notch and they have just about everything you could ask for in a practice facility. So far out of the 10 or so courses I've played in the greater Denver area, this is the best considering how much course you get for your dollar. It's a must play.

Great Layout

This layout is one of the best in San Diego, but unfortunately it could use a lot of help with conditioning. The greens were actually pretty good and rolled true but were fairly slow. The fairways were decent but had some bare spots. The rough, especially around the greens, needs a lot of work. I moved my ball to playable spots more than once due to the poor conditions. Overall, I still like this course especially if they are going to offer it for the low prices that they are, but I really wish they would put some time and money into bringing it back to it's pristine conditions of years past. I would definitely be willing to pay more for this course if it were in better shape. I still would recommend playing it.

Perfect

Perfect is the best way to describe this course. I've played a lot of top notch courses and the conditions of this course is near the top. Greens were running at 11.3 and were just immaculate. Fairways, rough and tee boxes couldn't be any better. The layout itself was very fun and challenging at the same time. I would definitely recommend the drive out there to play this gem, especially at the Golfnow rate of $75.

Great layout

The course is always a stout test with good conditions. Normally the greens are in good shape but this time they were pretty bad. Almost impossible to keep a putt from bouncing different directions. Maybe they've neglected them a bit since they will b shutting down soon for a complete renovation. Cant wait for the new layout but gonna miss the old one too. Get a round in before its totally different plus the rates will go up after the renovation. Great staff as well. Very friendly and helpful. Always worth the drive from SF.
