Northwoods Golf Course
Played On 08/14/2018Coming Back into Prime
I went to school here at USC way back when, 86 - 91, and lived at The Fairways, apartments on the back 9, for a time and played this course a bunch. Just moved back to Soda City and played it since they put in new greens. Amazing that the greens are as receptive as they are being so new. Lots of trees being removed to help keep green health in a good state. We have received a lot of rain lately so there are some soft spots out there, but not on the greens. Maintenance crew out today doing some good work. Just need to continue to invest in the course esthetics. Great layout with some risk/reward chances. Guy at counter this morning was more interested in ESPN than face time with a customer. The course has a great area for practice and warm up. Range a little scraggily but does the job. Putting chipping greens, 3 of them, are true and in good shape. For the money go play!

Well after 6 days of rain here in central Florida, Mother Nature granted us 12 hours and counting of no precipitation, as of this writing. I searched for a great course to play as all plans for some golf were disrupted due the aforementioned deluge every day since 5.13.18. GN had good rate for this course and perfect tee time for myself, just a single. Started at 10:50am and completed the round at 2:10pm. The community of Red Tail appears first rate with a nice short drive to the clubhouse upon entering off HWY 46A. Plenty of well laid out parking, members get their own marked spaces closest to golf shop, completely understandable. Was met in the parking lot by a nice gent who assisted me in getting loaded up and then proceeding to give me some helpful info about holes 1, 9, 14, 18. I only wish I had brought some cash to tip him, shame on me! I was then greeted by Nicholas(sp), in the golf shop. He could not have been nicer, informative and welcoming. This is over the top service I am receiving and I am not a member; and it was only his 2nd day on the job at Red Tail, Well DONE! I come at this from 30+ years in the Food & Bev Industry and Nicholas and the whole staff were TOP NOTCH. Bev Cart lady was very pleasant and a nice sight to see; even though the course was steady, to my eyes, not overly busy. Nice amenity on a 86 degree day with 85+ humidity. The course was in great shape considering all the rain. It was cart path only and while walking would have been a nice option to have had, to have done so would have been very taxing in the heat as there are lengthy spacing between some tees and greens. Fairways in great shape with a few damp spots. To my recollection I only took relief from casual water twice and I hit 12 of 14 fairways. Bunkers as you might expect were the only area that if pressed to comment poorly that would be it. Again, a lot of rain previous days. Greens still had some firmness, received shots well with normal ball marks as opposed to 'craters' you might expect from really damp greens.
Overall, I will play this course every time while here as opposed to the other course in Sorrento, not knocking it, Red tail is infinitely better!
My only recommendation for hospitality to go one step further wold be to outfit the bev cart with a refurbished iPad with the square attachment to take credit cards right then and there.
If visiting anywhere in central Florida, do yourself a favor and go play Red Tail!
Cobblestone Park Golf Club - Garnet Course

Cobblestone... had VIP Golf Now Rewards discount code so was fortunate to only pay $16. At $46 it still would have been a blessing. All tees, except those in extreme shade of trees, are level and sighted well. Fairways, are cush, greens looked to have been aerated within the past 3 weeks but having not used 'the hydro method', correct term escapes me, they showed those aerated signs but ones, that by this post date, render even mentioning it a moot point. the greens received shots and rolled true and quick.
Eagle Dunes Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2017Great Values year round
Eagle Dunes was enjoyable this go round. The only other time I played it was back in Oct 2016, only Front Nine. And this is not to say it wasn't nice the first time. Played all 18 this time and was joined on 2nd hole by a gent who plays there regularly. Staff at Pro Shop and Grill are very polite. Course has many sets of tees and presents challenges. Even with extreme dry conditions here in Central Fl, greens received shots nicely. Fairways ran out a bit. Greens rolled true with decent speed. Starter could have been present to initiate pairings would be only critique. Also even though there may be a lot of tee times available on GN.com, based on my viewings, plan on there being a good amount of walk-up play as well.
For the money - WELL WORTH IT and will be back!

Impressions from the moment of arrival to the end.
The cart staff is first rate at drop off and when packing up after the round. They are personable and very helpful.
The inside staff much less friendly but yet efficient. If inside staff was as personable as the cart staff then it would be near perfect.
Played with 3 chaps from England. We all played well and had a great time. Pace of play was smooth. Course layout nice and challenging. Greens decent speed even though they were not mowed that day, to our eye any way.
Range = HUGE but the club cleaner buckets were empty of water.
Bev cart staff very friendly and expedient.
The Windermere Club
Played On 10/15/2015Great Shape... Considering
Considering all the flooding we have had the course while waterlogged, played true and the greens were great given the pre-conceived notions. Pro shop staff a bit short but cart guys arriving and finishing were spot on and polite. Grill staff was very polite and helpful. Love this course and layout. Look forward to when it dries out.

I was part of the opening staff in 1990/1991 and had not played it since then. First the course - Great shape as far as the tee boxes, fairways and greens. First rate. Pro mentioned greens may be slow, I did not think as much. Not glass but fair speed. The bunkers however were in very poor shape. I found one only on # 16, but all looked the same. The clubhouse exterior was not in great shape but inside fair enough. Not a lot to choose from in the pro shop so come prepared. Overall the value for the money is FIRST RATE. Great holes and layouts. Course plays longer than 6800+, from tips, due to elevation changes. Play here when you can!
Would like a pin placement guide and flag color changes for depth of pin placement. The small flag at base of flag stick was a bit ambiguous.
