I have played Metrowest countless times but not for about 6 months. The greens putted very nice and were in great shape. The bunkers were also raked and in great shape which is not always the case here due to drainage issues I believe. The problem today was the lack of grass in the fairways. After the 3rd hole we felt it necessary to play preferred lies. There are way too many bare spots and areas of hardpan. This was not always the case as the fairways here are generally good. After mentioning this to a few of the staff, the general answer seemed to be - yes we need rain. The only place that seemed to be watered were the greens. I did see fairway sprinklers come on a couple of times, but they are not watered near enough. I would not recommend play here at this time unless you don't mind hitting from thin, hard lies with little grass.

I played Crooked Cat yesterday. The winter overseed of rye grass came in beautifully. The course was in top condition. The greens rolled true and were fast. This is the time of year to play in central Florida. I highly recommend Orange County National. Both courses are terrific.

I used to live in this community and have played the course more than a hundred times. In the late 80's this course was in wonderful condition and a challenge from all 5 sets of tees. A few days ago I would say the condition of the course was fair at best. There was no evidence of winter overseeding, and the fairways were sparce, with what little grass there was tightly mowed. The course was soggy even though there had been no rain. I'm not sure if there was an irrigation problem, but we played off sloppy lies all day. Chipping around the greens was extremely challenging due to the lack of grass and wet conditions. The one bright spot was the playability of the greens. They were in fine shape, though some of the pins were set where no golfer would place them. The driving range has limited space, which causes the condition of the turf to be pretty chewed up. The balls were dirty and worn out. The outside staff was friendly and helpful.
I always loved this layout but the course conditions degrade the experience. I will eventually go back, but not in the near future.
