Beautiful surroundings - rough shape

The PGA West Dunes course is a fun layout in beautiful surroundings- particular the holes enjoying direct mountain views.
The course was in rough shape. I get it, it’s summer, but compared to Silver Rock, Mission Hills Dye Challenge and Indian Wells Country Club Classic course during the same two week stretch it is rough.
I imagine it’s great during Winter and Spring, and I would play it again to find out.
The maintenance staff is pretty obnoxious, following me down the fairway on two holes, mowing the front of a par three while I was waiting on the tee at a par three for several minutes, and mowing while traversing the landing areas of two par fours.
I don’t mind waiting for legitimate reasons, but these guys just didn’t pay attention.

Slowest 9 of the Summer

The course was undergoing renovations and only the front nine were playable. That was nowhere stated when I made the reservation.
Not worth what I paid.
Pace of play was abysmal, and made even worse by people crowding into one side of the golf course only.
The golf shop staff was really friendly, and the holes that were playable were in good condition.
The course and/or GolfNow should have clearly stated what I was signing up for.
Disappointing morning.

2:08 Hour Round anyone...

Got to play this gem in the middle of summer and the first time I saw another human being was on 18, where having to wait on the 18th fairway for my approach provided just enough time to replace my headcover on my driver and clean my clubs.
All this resulted in a 84 in 2 hours and 8 minutes.
Course was in great condition with very few exceptions and the greens were slow but rolled pretty true.
The staff was helpful and friendly with the exception of one old curmudgeon who gave me a ride back to the bag drop and refused to engage in any kind of small talk despite me complimenting his course.
I'll be back!

Fantastic Mountain Views

Played the course in the middle of summer and the conditions were great except for the patchwork they call the 17th green.
If you can't hit it 245 straight off the tee this course will get you.
If your driver has abandoned you on this particular outing (not that I would know anything about that...) you're going to struggle, unlike some desert courses where it's "hit your 4 iron of the tee all day long and score".
Pace of play was whatever we wanted it to be.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Fairways were in great shape and the green for the most part rolled well.
Will definitely be back; after I have some words with my driver.
