The Golf Club at Ballantyne
Played On 03/11/2017Don't get the hype
This is my second time playing this course and honestly, I fail to understand the hype behind it. Both times I have been underwhelmed by it. The $80 price tag is way too high. The overall conditions of the course were okay at best. Many tee boxes were chewed with sandy patches scattered throughout. I understand it's still early in the season, but I'd expect much better considering the steep price tag. I will say the greens are solid. They definitely roll true.
In addition to the above, the overall layout of the course is just not that good. Zero memorable holes. Many of which take you through an industrial park with views of large office buildings. That really takes away from a golf course to me.
Overall, I find everything about this course to be average. There's just no value to the whole experience. To call it the best public golf course in the Charlotte area is a joke to me. It's not a bad course by any means and it's worth checking out. I just wouldn't get my hopes up for anything special.
Forest Dunes Golf Club
Played On 6/9/2013One of the best tracks in the midwest...
Forest Dunes is an awesome track from beginning to end...in that order. The clubhouse and practice facility are top-notch. The staff is great. Overall, it's a fantastic experience.
It's almost like 2 courses wrapped into 1. The front 9 is more through the woods and the back 9 you get the dunes feel. Both sides are great. I feel the front is a tad more challenging.
The course is in great condition. The tee boxes and fairways are basically perfect. The greens are some of the purest I've putted on. I will say that the greens used to be (2-3 yrs ago) in better overall shape. A lot of them are spotty now, but they still run true.
If you're a fan of great courses and a pure golf experience, definitely make the trip to FD. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you so much.
