After seeing an ad for this course on Facebook, I booked two Hot Deal tee times, and my buddy and I drove an hour and twenty minutes to the course. On first glance it looked pretty good. The practice area was ok, but the putting green was covered with some kind of grass I've never seen. We were told that it was bent grass, but I don't think it was. The grain rain twenty different directions and the green speed was about a 5. Since we got a Hot Deal, we decided to go ahead and play anyway. One hour and twenty minutes after teeing off, we were waiting in the 4th fairway to hit our approach shots to the green. Yes, An hour and twenty minutes to play 3 and a half holes. RIDICULOUS! The group in front of us was 2 men and 1 woman hitting from three different tee boxes, and hitting into the woods and/or water on every hole, then spending 10 - 15 minutes or more looking for balls or fishing for every ball they could see in the pond. After waiting 20 minutes for that group to finish and leave the hole, we decided to leave. NO ranger anywhere to be seen. As we drove backwards to the clubhouse, the first three tees we passed had two foursomes each waiting and a third group in their fairways waiting on the groups on the greens. We told them all that we hoped they were ready for a 7 hour round of golf. We drove straight to the parking lot, unloaded the cart, took the cart back and started looking for another place to play. We never went in the clubhouse because we knew it was no use and we didn't want a raincheck because we have no intention of ever going back there. We got tee times for $21 at River Oaks Country Club just west of Statesville, NC, and went and had a wonderful time playing there. This course used to be called Buffalo Shoals Golf Club, but it has a new owner and he has spent a fortune redoing the course and I highly recommend it! The greens rolled true and fast. The bermuda grass in the fairways was about 50% green, but when all the grass comes out of dormancy, the fairways will be very nice. We definitely will go back to River Oaks.
Village Greens Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/25/2016Glad I played here.
First time here for me and my golf buddy, and we were glad we found this place. The course is great, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the grill has the largest most diverse menu of any golf course I've ever been to. They actually smoke BBQ on site. The greens are plush and moderately fast, the fairways are nice and the rough is not too high. We will certainly go back to play here again!
Legacy Pines Golf Club
Played On 10/23/2016Great course for the money!
This was our first time playing here, but we will return. We drove about 70 miles to play here and it was well worth it. I got it on a hot deal and that made it even better. On the way down, there was an accident with a 7 mile back up. We called the course and told them we'd be late. They were very accommodating and told us not to worry, they'd work us in when we got there, and ever give us range time to warm up. The course is very hilly and I would not want to play here if it was a cart path only day. The green were as good as any I've played all year. Very smooth and fast with lots of undulations. You really need a range finder or Sky Caddie to play here because the elevation changes really influence the club selection. Go play it, you'll like it!
West at Jacaranda Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2016A Florida gem.
This was my first time playing this course, but it will not be the last. Unfortunately recent rains had the course wet and 4 holes were cart path only, but it still was a wonderful round. The fairways are plush and the greens are gorgeous . I was able to get the round on a hot deal for the two of us and that made the day even better. Even if I had to pay the going rate it would have been well worth it.
Omni Amelia Island Resort - Ocean Links
Played On 04/26/2016Great course
This was my second time playing the Ocean Links Course and it was just as good this time as the last. I brought along my best friend and his son and they loved it. They both remarked that it was the most beautiful course they'd ever played. The three of us have played more than one hundred courses each, in several states so that was not just idle chatter. The ocean side holes are our favorite, but there is not a disappointing hole on the course. The layout is a little tricky getting from number 6 to number 7, and they could use a few more signs. Overall it's a wonderful course and you'll have a great time. They are supposed to punch the greens in late May, so be sure to check on that if you plan to play the course.
Cimarrone Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2015Bad greens
This course has a lot of water, almost every hole, so bring your A-game, or a lot of balls. The fairways were fine and the rough was up a bit, making errant balls sometimes hard to find. The only real disappointment was the greens. They were covered with several different kind of grasses, some of which grew much faster than others, making the greens hard to putt. I had read some reviews that said the greens were great, but that is not what we found to be true. I won't be returning to this course and I only recommend it to players who don't care how the greens roll.
Thank you for the review and feedback, gnscorp1369. We're sorry to hear that you didn't have a great time playing here.
St. Johns Golf & Country Club
Played On 12/29/2015Great course
I loved this course! Every thing about it is first class. The main thing I liked was how good the greens were. I will tell all my golf buddies to play this course if they are anywhere in north eastern Florida, and I will definitely play it again when I'm in the area. This is a must play course!
Forest Oaks Country Club
Played On 08/01/2015Not what I expected
I booked this tee time because I never played this course before and it was cheap. When I got there, I saw why it was cheap. Many of the fairways were more bare than grass covered. Five or six holes were cart path only because there was almost no grass. The lady on the drink cart was very nice and explained to me that her husband was the new supt. and he had only been there a year. She said the course he inherited was a disaster and all the hot, dry weather this year had only made things worse. The greens were full of old ball marks, but still rolled fairly well. There membership is increasing and I think with time, and money, the course can come back to it's former glory, but it's going to be a while.
Cherokee Valley Course and Club
Played On 06/27/2015Poor management
My playing partner and I were extremely disappointed with the pace of play at this course. 18 holes took 5 & 1/2 hours. There was no ranger on the course and the tee times scheduled too close together. Several times there were three foursomes on the tee at the same time. Also, the guy in the clubhouse told me the green were rolling good when I called to make the tee time. He lied. They had punched the greens about 9 or 10 days prior to our arrival and putts bumped all over the place. I think the management of this facility could use some new people or some training for the ones there now. I will have to take a while to decide if I ever go back to Cherokee Valley......
We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience yesterday out at our course. We would love to fix this by sending you a promo code for the next online round you book with us. Please email me at loriteetimes@gmail.com to further discuss.
Eagle Chase Golf Club
Played On 12/26/2014Great greens!
It had been a long time since I last played this course and I had forgotten how accurate you had to be when hitting approach shots. You have to be in the right place when you putt or you will be punished. The greens were as good as any I played in the last 30 years. I never saw a bare place on a single green. They were smooth and fast. The only negative was because of a lot of recent rain, several of the traps held water and a few times we had to fish our golf balls out of the water and find a playable place to drop. There was a frost delay that morning, but the ranger kept things moving along. This is not a course for a hacker. It is up one hill and down another and there isn't a flat place on any of the huge greens. I really like this course and I will return with more than one of my golf buddies next time!
Thanks for your review! We are thrilled that you enjoyed your experience at Jacaranda. We are glad that the recent rains did not put a damper on your round. We look forward to having you back for your next round!
