Esplanade Golf & Country Club at Lakewood Ranch
Played On 06/28/2018Disclaimer- my best ever round
Full disclaimer, I shot a 71, (-1), the first time I’ve ever been under par and this may impact my review..
Pro shot ok but not overly welcoming, but starter was very good and gave out yardage book and took time to explain where to aim and where to avoid on various holes, this proved very useful. You’ll gather by the yardage book that there is no gps on the buggies, for a premium course at a premium price I expected gps to be on the cart.
Course ranger came round a few times, I was behind 2 four balls but was round in 3.5 hours, saw the drinks cart twice, sufficient water stops also.
Course in very good condition, wide fairways and undulating greens which ran pretty true, water in several places and a. Couple of carries over water from the tee, depending which set you play. Not overly long at 6700 from the tips, but very playable. Par 5s just about reachable for reasonably big hitters.
Tiki bar after has reasonable food and drink, with sports on tv.
One of the more expensive courses in the area, but you can see why when you play.. recommended
Bent Tree Country Club
Played On 06/26/2018Maybe not the best course but definitely the best value
Friendly reception, decent if not spectacular layout, no real danger of losing too many balls. Pretty open and can land on adjoining fairway if necessary. There are better courses at much higher rates, however I’ve never come across anywhere else offering a decent course, including breakfast with coffee, a drink, 18 holes, a buggy, lunch and a drink after for around $25. Absolutely no complaints about anything, fabulous value for money and recommended.
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 06/25/2018Go-to course when in Sarasota
This is the one course I play every time I visit the area. Great layout, tough with loads of water. Hit it straight and long or bring loads of golf balls.
Tees had been mostly re-laid when I played, and sure the greens would be faster in main season.
Probably not a course for the faint hearted, but worth the visit.

A few things;
Golfnow app gave this a 4* review and showed price as $30, arriving at course the pro shop said the most they charged was $15 so charged me that.
For $15 I can't complain, course had been aerated (but no mention on the app), was pretty wide open, with little difficulty.
Course was very quiet when I played (afternoon in July) so went round in just over 2 hours which suited me as I like to play fast.
I'd offer no criticism of the course, just be aware that it's far from the best course in the area, but is a lot less expensive. If going again I'd pay a bit more for some of the other local courses
Sarasota National Golf Club
Played On 07/16/2017Best in the Region
I played several courses in the Port Charlotte / Venice region whilst on vacation in July '17, this was easily the best.
Facilities were good, course was lovely and in good condition despite recent heavy storms. Distance between green & tee would make walking difficult
Would have played again if I'd had more time.
