Re Born

Heard that the old Ridgewood lakes had been re done completely and was just opening. Having played prior when it opened first to 2017 saw the decline to very poor conditions. Wow amazing transformation and will only get better as new fairways greens mature with age. Greens rolled well for new. Sand traps actually had great sand and the course was well manicured.. Should compete with other high end courses. Golf now hot tee time rate well worth it. Familiar staff faces back, Only negative occurred when inquired if could go out early as arrived early, course was open, had to wait to booked tee time because we were prepaid booked online, possibly because rate discounted through booking, full price or walk on could have gone out early. When we did go out on booked time play was 4hrs which was great. As news travel re re opening as White Heron and excellent conditions vacant gaps in tee times most likely won't happen. Played with two residents who like us had nothing but positives. enjoyed the day

steady as she goes

Try to play this course once a year. Didn't disappoint infact better then other times. Haven't played it since the filling in of some of the sand traps. The filling in and grassing over traps through out the course improved the pace of play substantially but still on the slower side 5 hrs 10 minutes little long. The lack of marshals checking pace was disappointing as improvement in pace would have heightened our foursomes enjoyment. For our group just getting the group in front to leave green faster then a snails pace would have saved time. Having to wait sometimes 5 minutes plus for the green to clear from the fairway wasn't the best for at least my game. The course was in good condition and the greens better then our first game elsewhere. One putt greens were possible as you could read a break and the roll was there if struck well. Sand traps were good too. For the price and condition the value is there an enjoyable course to play.

playable for sure

Played this course once again as the first course after 4 months off did not disappoint. For this time year in great shape. greens seemed a little slow but our groups putting skills were slower. Collectively left a few putts out there. Sand and there is lots was good soft and a lot. The lack of water made playing much easier and no one in our foursome lost a ball however we did visit the beaches often. Pace of play was great played 18 holes on a full course in 4 hrs 10 minutes thanks to the course pace play great. Customer service throughout better then most. great track for any level of player, pick your tee blocks and enjoy.

take the right size bite, too much could choke not for beginners

Arrived at the course ahead of tee time, pleasantly greeted at bag drop, given directions to pro shop and where carts were parked with bags. Well organized with two different courses. Enough staff so no scrambling. checkin fast. Played north course first time. started on time. Not a flat course this one very scenic cut through hilly farm land with many ups and downs. All tees have forced carries to fairways that finding level flat space difficult.. Know your level of play or you will be beat up bad.by playing the wrong set of tees. Good mix of right left doglegs to elevated well trapped greens which in most part had good sand. Good mix of 4's,5' and 3's. Yardage book would have been nice to help with distances on forced carries ad hazards. Greens were fast, rolling and quite varied in shapes, sizes and alignments. First cut of rough thick but playable, second hasn't seen a rough cut mower for a while and was in my opinion too long for mid to high handicapp golfers. It also slowed pace of play as balls would settle down out of sight quite often. Needing good tracking and many pairs of eyes sometimes to locate. As other reviews have stated you will walk a lot between cart paths and green complexes up and down from the many elevation changes which is very true. Our threesome thoroughly enjoyed playing this course, it was spectacular. They key was playing from the correct tee boxes for our abilities in fact we adjusted during our round, if we hadn't the course would not get a good review. It can be a great enjoyable round or a miserable one, the golfers choice.

disappointing

we arrived early for our tee time although mid afternoon. trouble from the start, line up for carts. seems they over book or just don't have enough carts. add a wait then arrive at the first tee with no starter was the tip off of a very slow round. 5 twosomes in a row with two groups thinking their PGA professionals who wit for greens to clear on par 4's before teeing off or on par 5' wit for second shot until group in front on green. greens were better then previous play a little long but playable. rolling lmost true. the brown sparse fairways could only be distinguished from the rough because they had little more grass very little. the course layout is challenging with the rolling terrain, many changes of elevation. the slow pace along with wind and cool temps as darkness started allowed only nine holes in almost 3 hrs to be done. When finished the only golf club staff were the back shop boys putting away the carts, the clubhouse was locked tight no chance for a bite to eat, nor drink nor use of washroom, nor proshop staff the icing on a disappointing outing. Ledgends has the possibility to be much better, management apparently satisfied or changes from past years would have been fixed

disappointing

After driving by this course for several weeks and seeing the green fairways and greens from the roads thought we would give it a try if the rack rate was within our budget. tuesday the rates posted were reasonable for the course so decided go play. The customer service from arrival to end was excellent friendly and informative. The starter informed us that they were were going off the back nine first. Odd but then told had just sanded greens but they were running well. The course was both green, brown, and harder then thought. It appears the grounds crew cut the course short and tight and where the mounds appeared shaved close causing them to brown i the heat. The greens did roll well and offered many challenging putts. Wide fairways, with many sand traps presented a challenge on all holes. A good mixture of par, 4's,5's, and 3's of varying lengths kept us thinking on all shots. Second time played this course when conditions on the day of play didn't meet expectations nevertheless a challenging layout from all tees, choose the correct tone and enjoy what is a gem.

nice tract but disappointing

Have payed this course numerous times over the last 10 years and found both the course and the service better then average on most occasions. Last year found it in need of some tender loving care and was happy to find that the course changed ownership and some $$ was put into the conditioning. Arrived early and was informed on schedule from the pro shop only to find no starter and golfers just lining up as they arrived to the first tee box. Lack of greeters and help to bring bags from car to carts should have been an alert. In any event did get off 30 minutes late to a slow front nine.. The course though was in better condition then the previous year. with soft greens and fairways. Rough was rough but can be expected given the price point paid which was a little below from previous years for golf in the same period. . We were a twosome and should have been paired with the group in front with the same time but the l lack of a starter and a walk on single prevented it. Behind us were three or four two somes that quite the round due to slow play. what could have been a great day was lessened by by sow rate of play. A ranger c certainty would have helped with the pace of play. Some greens showed signs of winter kill but overall were fair for the $$ paid. Hopefully the new management takes notice of the reviews and compliments the reviews by improving the level of service to what repeat customers have experienced in past.

A Royal gem

Returned to Royal St cloud after a few years. Last time playing round was ruined by sewage treatment plant adjacent to course smell. Re visited, now three nine 's and found no smell and a very busy this sunday. GPS took us on a trip to the course so arrived shorty before tee time. Had too wait in line to get slip for stater which delayed us and when received was informed we were late in a not so friendly manner. Starter then proceed to inform the group from our now missed tee time had left paired up with another and we had to wait until another twosome was found and he would put us in. This happened quickly ad we we teed off 3 groups behind original time. We played white to blue. This course was in great shape tee, fairways, greens in fact the best for the price for a non resort course. Level flat tees with 4 tee blocks spread out to challenge all levels. Pick the right one and you wi enjoy the challenge and have satisfactory results. the fairways are generous in widths for landing off the tee and playing the hole. well maintained sand traps will challenge your shot making abilities. The greens were in great shape rolled almost true given they were slower then expected with some tricky pins. Both nines had a good mixture of 3,4,5, with some straight, some doglegs and some forced carries. Good to check layout which is on card if no GPS to alert too hazards(water) crossing in front of some greens and within driving distance off some tees. Pace of play though was slow the first six holes. A course ranger did come out anf the pace improved for the remainder of the first nine. Unfortunately the second nine sowed back down but as a group our foursome was enjoying the course, the company and were resigned with a longer round. However 6 holes into the second nine three groups in front was a single playing on this busy sunday which most likely contributed to the .slow pace of play. However the day was bright , sunny and warm. The course in great condition which resulted in an enjoyable longer round. Go play you will enjoy

rain rain go away

Try to play this course at least once when in the Florida Orlando area. Unlike some other courses on Golf Now that appear to be neglected this one has kept up with the conditions of the course. Traps have sand fairways and greens playable. A good mixture of 3, 4, 5 on the front with some forced carries. Know your tees and you will be okay. Some water that will come into play if you don't take the time to determine where to target your drives. The rain started lightly on the 8th hole and by the 9th at the turn was getting heavier. At the 11th now being wet the women in our group thought it would be best to get out of the rain. No rain check offered but it would have been appreciated even for 9 holes.. Went to grill area looking for a hot tea to warm up and wait to see if it would clear to complete round but left wondering how a course/restaurant that holds receptions/ functions didn't have hot tea and from our interaction didn't care.. No explanations given. Packed up and left hopefully to return in the future when he weather improves.

new kid on the block

Finally a finished golf course to try. A new gem in the 4/27 corridor. If you have not read any reviews you may be disappointed to arrive to park on the street, pay at a table on the driving range and use portable toilets. But if you come for the golf and the course, you will not be disappointed. With four sets of tees it can be as challenging as you wish. Chose correctly and enjoy this links style course. The forced carries are playable for all if you play the tees that suit your abilities. The ladies, one senior had no difficulty from the forward tee although one hole was a stretch. For a brand new course just opened the fairways, rough and greens were in very good condition. The bunkers actually had enough good sand to allow for any shot out of them. There are many to try. The greens did roll fast as mentioned in the reviews and if you were above the hole 3 putts was a good possibility. Our group did find that breaks we saw often didn't happen. Missed a few putts. Many changes in elevations add to the experience and depending on the wind direction can add or subtract 1-2 cubs on all shots. With no GPS or yardage books, some time was used in determining where to play a shot and the layout of the hole. Some long distances between holes which help with the pace of play. A downwind first hole par 4 to a par 3 second did have multiple groups waiting on the second tee. Have played the other two Champions gate courses and this is equal too and will be better with age and as amenities are completed. Play it now as rumour has it going private at some time in the future.

tender loving care needed

Re visited this course on May 26. after missing it for two. years. The vistas are still spectacular, the layout challenging but the course condition not so good. Winter was a greens killer. One temp green on 16, fairway cut short which actually rolled the best, 3rd hole used alternate green but teed from fairway with short wedge. At best 60% green condition but most were 20-40% in shape. Some tees were also in rough shape, plus some collars were as bad as the greens. Some of the rough has not seen a rough cut mower with rough 8-10 inches tall. My playing partner who rarely gets upset did here when loosing balls that runoff the sloped fairways and get lost in the deep grass. It also seemed the fairways were cut much narrower then in previous years. The pace of play was quick as the course was not busy, guess the word was out on the poor condition. Normal rack rates, even GOLF NOW rates need to be reduced as it is very over priced now. Alternately close the course to allow the turf staff to work on the greens to bring them back to more playable conditions, even little traffic will hinder the recovery while disappointing golfers who expect better from this course.

narrowing with water

re visited after a good game in december. Shorter course but don't let this fool you. narrow tight fairways, with left right doglegs, water with forced carries to narrow landing areas. greens were rolling true and fast with some nasty pin placements this day. transitions from fairways to rough to houses backyards narrow. Worth the time to play a different course. Stayed for dinner in the dinning area before long drive back to Orlando. The food, the service was excellent and capped a great experience at Rosedale.

A gem with bite

Played this course for the second time but 10 yrs has past since first time playing. Remembered it was a great track in great condition. Well it is still the same even better then before. Lots of water, forced carries & rolling fast true greens. A thinking golfers course not the hack and whack and you will be alright. With 6 sets of tees to pick from picking the one for your real honest ability is a must. Don't be fooled by the yardage there is difficulty lurking from any tee box played in fact played one up white this time and wondered what or why did I pay blue the first time. Found white very challenging, more then enough. Staff were friendly from arrival at pro shop to starters and all encountered throughout the round. The tee boxes were flat, leading to rolling, some flat some sloped but all excellent condition fairways. Water does come into play on most even for good shots as the wrong side of centre could have ball roll into hazard. The greens were fast and landing below the hole was a definite advantage as side and down hills were speedy for sure. The opening hole could give you a false sense of what was coming as it played normal but the second will put you back quickly as it needs an accurate tee shot to landing area then a forced carry uphill to a narrow elevated green over 100 yds of dried swamp, The ladies in our group laid up on the second and still found the forced carry difficult too. The rest of the front nine was challenging interesting and fun with a good mixture of doglegs, 3,4,5. The back nine steps it up in difficulty with an opening 5 the longest. 11 -17 take you around some small lakes for the road home 18th hole. The 13th is one great interesting hole no time to day dream. 17 is narrow and slopes to the water, keep it left or you will have a hazard to deal with. The 18th finishing hole wraps around the lake with a tough green surrounded by water with a hill back.

I am thirsty & need a haircut

Booked and played this course on Sunday March 16, 2014. Played it 10 years ago when better half was learning to play. Good mixture of par 3's, 4's and 5's with doglegs, changes in elevation to suit all levels of golfers. With four sets of tees can make it as long or short as you wish. Some fairways are lined with houses but really do not come into play unless the shots are really off line. Some greens were shaggy, some shorter in length but did run reasonably true. The problem on this day was the pin placements on the front and back of the greens. Most if not all were very close to the edges with some at the bottom or very top of hills which did lead to more 3 putts then necessary even for the low handicapper. In fact one playing partner a club manager said his staff would have been in deep doo, doo from the membership low or high handicappers if his course was set up like this one today. It though was both fun and challenge.

The tee boxes do need some tender loving care, many many divots on most, length of grass on too many too long hard to tee up the ball even for driver, actually placed tee in divot on one . They were green but saw no watering heads so trucking in water could be a reason. Filling the divots on a regular basis, having sand and grass mixture on tee box would definitely help. Cutting them too. fun course too play given the fair to moderate conditions and the reasonable price. No water but lots of grass swalls and sand ,.

fun

This is a nine hole pitch and putt with holes from 50 yds to 90 yds using mats as tee boxes. great course for families with small children, grandparents who just want something to do that is reasonable in cost & fun. great for beginners, if golfer in party can use as short game prep but not for serious golfer. Might need to check if clubs balls etc are available for use. Wasn't busy

A tough though fair tract not necessarily for a beginner.

Well this course certainly lives up to it's name. TANGLE ! From the opening tee shot the great vistas start while demonstrating it's teeth. The first is a long hole from elevated tee boxes not one but four sets at varying heights and angles to a right to left sloped fairway. Thick rough(grass) and then fescue follow the many undulating contours of the fairway from tee to green. Greens were a good size well trapped and even with recent aeration different levels and ridges added to difficulty in putting well. Must re visit when greens have grown back in from aeration to really see how they really roll. Long forced carries from all tee boxes are common over water deep fescue and marsh prevail. Blind shots and layups abound through out the eighteen holes, definitely need to be on your toes/game for every hole as each will challenge. Having said all this, the GPS on carts, provided needed help by giving good measurements to carry hazards, ends and beginnings of fairways and sand, playing without would not be enjoyable. Although it showed me the real condition of my game it was fun to play and the challenge did make it a very enjoyable round. The score card suggests tee boxes based on an accurate handicap not one we may think we have, play from the correct tee for your ability, if needed use 1-2 more clubs for the many changes elevations tee, fairways, greens, winds and move it forward if need be to enjoy the round otherwise it could be a frustrating walk in the park. Pace of play was slow in part due to the difficulty of the course, numbers of golfers, tee boxes used day of play and perhaps golfers playing from wrong tee boxes. Loosing a ball is not a rare occurrence given the slopes of the fairways, thick rough, fescue and sometimes long carries from all tee boxes. Play within your ability and the challenges will provide an enjoyable round.

Challenging links style course in good conditon ruined by very slow pace of play.

Arrived at the course before our tee time. This review is in two parts both relevant. Our greeting by the pro shop staff was less then cordial bordering on rude. After providing booking name, sales slip was given with a demand to read the bottom and sign it, re enforced verbally that it outlined the course outside alcohol policy. A duplicate copy then provided for the starter identical with the same paragraph on alcohol policy. The bag drop personnel accepted our bags and put them on our cart. We walked in with our cooler bags of water, juice, fruit for the round and placed them in the cart. Our inquiry about number of golfers that day and pace of play was answered with steady since they opened and all golfers were starting on time. Being a twosome we were informed that our partners had not checked in yet but they would be brought out to us if we teed off the first. No problem was our reply. We then travelled a short distance to the first tee and were met by a pleasant starter who confirmed the pin placement, general course conditions. While talking with him he received a call that the other two players in our group had arrived and were on their way out. The first hole is a long par 4 with a creek cutting across the fairway 30+ yds in front of the green. We waited as directed until the group in front crossed the creek/ditch before we teed off. By the time we got to our tee shots the group in front was finishing up on the green which was promising that yes indeed the pace of play would be good. Wrong, we finished the first hole and then had to wait on the second tee. The start of a long day of slow play was to begin. Some of the next holes were blind tee shots with the black and white barbers poles provided for direction only. Unfortunately this was not mentioned by the starter which would have helped initially as two players thought they were the normal 150 yd markers and a wrong club selection resulted. Lack of GPS, or no charge yardage book could add time to round. The 12"-18" sticks at 100 and 150 yd markers when in place could easily be missed and the confusion with the barber poles slows the pace of play. While waiting on the fairway for our approach shots the MARSHAL not a golf/players assistant approached us. His greeting was very offensive and aggressive. Two comments rec'd, spoke to group in front and very loudly " did they check those cooler bags you have when you checked in for beer". We replied no, we had no beer either to which we were told then they were not doing their job at check in " Before he had a chance to say anymore, my playing partner told hi,m if he felt that way be free to come and check ours. He then left never to be seen again until one of our other players was so upset with the pace of play that he called the pro shop on the 13th hole to complain, saw the Marshal on the 14th green stop at green supposedly spoke to the group, left without speaking to us. Still took over 1 hr 15 minutes to finish last four holes. After completing round we were going to enjoy the patio and have dinner and a cold beer before driving back to Toronto. Having celebrated my anniversary at Loch Ness/Hunters some years ago,was familiar with the 5 star restaurants offerings and was looking forward to a re visit. Unfortunately the lounge menu was limited and the restaurant was yet to open, perhaps given it was less then an hour before a positive customer service could have said what were you interested in , I will check. We had a cold beer(cart girl busy only saw her once 4th hole, again 13th while waiting.) perhaps on a busy Friday two girls could be out on the course and we left. I believe providing ample beverage course coverage often on a warm June day for players to get refreshment needs to players should happen. This day it did not. Thanks. we had our own coolers with water, juice, fruit and energy bars

The course is a challenging links style course with a good mixture of varying length par 3,s par 4's and 5's. Many changes in elevation, water and wind will challenge all level of golfers with tee blocks for each. True too links style golf are the many sand traps that come into play on both fairways and greens. With the above seasonal wet weather, the course was in an almost dry summer condition with good roll. The first cut of rough was short but thick with the fescue gnarly and long. The greens were fast and above hole position often ended in a 3 putt. A good variety of size and rolling contours added to the putting challenges. I would not hesitate to recommend this course as a good alternative to traditional courses but pace of play and customer service does need attention.

An old syle course, fun to play

An old style tree lined short course set on the side of the Niagara escarpment with tree lined rolling fairways, with small trapped greens. This is the older of the two Chedoke courses and the easier one with only two tee blocks playing too 5750 yds from the back tees. The course was in a good green condition with wide fairways, thick rough and slower rolling then average greens. Many changes in elevations as you go up and down, or across the escarpment. Average length par 4's , with 5's just under 500 yds. 5 par 3's from 127 to 260 yds make it interesting. Fairways are not all flat offering side hill,up and down hill lies. First time players could have trouble finding next tee due to lack of directional signage on some holes and no cart paths around greens to assist. Many tee boxes grouped together in same area with some immediately behind greens. A good course for high handicap and beginners with enough challenge to keep them interested and enjoyable, mid players to work on game or keep form up, with the lower handicap players, long irons and wedges. Pace of play could be better given the length however given the range of ability of the golfers that play this course, number of golfers booked to play, longer then normal rounds are most likely the norm, not the exception.

a good variety of interesting holes

Played on 31/5/13with a 12.32 pm tee time. Arrived early and was able to start before booked time. Starter was good to point out cautions of soft fairways on the first 4 fairways due to recent rainfalls in area. The opening 4 holes are narrow tree lined ones that will test you from the opening shot. Once out of the trees a good mixture of doglegs, changes in elevation with wind will continue to make the round interesting but fair. The back nine continues with changes in elevation but is more open to the blowing wind with water on some holes. The fairways and rough were well manicured and green. Sand traps average condition but good given recent rainfalls. The multi level rolling greens with the days pin placements made it a challenge putting. The greens rolled well and were in great condition. Being a hot humid day it was good to see the beverage cart often.

better then average

Links style course with lots of sand on both fairways and around large green greens. Front nine is easier then the back. With 4 sets of tees. As with most courses playing from the tees appropriate to level of ability will allow all levels of golfers to enjoy. some long forced carries and water does come into play both off the tee, approach to green. Front nine had some greens under repair or visible turf damage. All though are large enough to give challenging pin placements on different levels. Back nine greens were in much better condition with no visible winter or other damage. Some of the fairway rough and around one green is turned up by the wild pigs but really doesnot come into play. A good mixture of doglegs, right/left and straight holes makes it enjoyable to play. A yardage book, GPS or playing with someone who hs played the course would help first time playing. One of the better maintained in I-4,27 area. If your looking to see alligators there are many throughout the course in the water hazards and ponds.
