Place in shambles

I played early Sunday morning. Walked with a friend and paid $42 (walking price was same as cart price).

This place is a mess. Driving range tee grass was bad and uneven and the range itself was about as ugly as any I've ever seen.

The course itself needs a lot of TLC. Tee boxes could only be identified by markers and fairways were undistinguishable from the rough. The high point was the greens - they were very good. Not a lot of bunkers, but the ones I looked at were in bad shape.

The course needs mowing and a lot of overdue upkeep - bunkers, lots of broken ball washers, broken up cart paths, etc.

I paid $42 cart rate (and walked). I'd say their cart rate should be in the $25 weekend range and $18 on weekdays to be competitive with other courses in the area.

If it weren't for 20+ mph winds, the course would have been very easy.

Nice Private CC Course

Bent Tree is a nice private country club course that's very convenient to Dallas.

Course conditions were good for October and the course is very fair. Greens are in great shape.

It takes a pairing with a member or participation in a charity tournament to play it, but if you get the chance, it's definitely worthwhile.

Fun and challenging but course not in great shape.

Course is in much better conditions than prior visits in 2014 and 2012.

Tee boxes are generally good, most fairways are pretty good and the greens finally don't have any bare spots sand on them.

There are about 4 holes where a lot of the fairways are completely burnt out but the rest are ok. Tee boxes have some of the same issues. But, they seem to have put in a lot of work because the conditions are much better than they've been in the last 3 years.

The course is fun and challenging, but it's pretty far out in the suburbs and the rack rate is still too high for the condition the course is in.

If asked a year ago, I wouldn't go back, but I played in a charity event this time, and now I'd go back. But, I'd wait another year to see how some of the condition improvement efforts are going.

The course is fun and challenging, but I'd say it's a place to try once a year or so rather than regularly.

Ok, but Nothing Special

First time at Firewheel Lakes Course. Overall, it was fine and in good shape, but nothing remarkable or memorable about it.

The course was nice (much better than Firewheel's Old Course). Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, greens all in good shape.

The Par 3s all felt the same - not a whole lot of difference in distance or club selection. There are some tight fairways to deal with. Not a whole lot of drink / snack cart attention.

The experience was fine, but that's about all I can say. It's not a destination, but it can be close and serviceable for a regular round. Nothing bad to say about the course, but nothing great to say either.

Fun Muni in Great Shape

This is a fun muni in Dallas in great shape at a good price ($18 walking on weekday, add $15 for a cart).

First time playing here and had a blast. Tony, Brent and the club staff are very engaged and friendly. Course is in very good condition and greens were in great shape (no spots or sand that I saw)..

It's not long from the men's tees (6,300# but the fairways can be tight and the layout is challenging. My biggest mistake was putting a driver and 3W in the bag. Next time, I'll probably ditch the driver and bring a longer hybrid or 5W. A lot of the tee shots lend themselves very well to a 215-230 yard tee shot and I didn't have that in the bag, so I usually went with a 200 yard hybrid which usually left me with 130 - 170 shots into the greens. The doglegs, narrow fairways and trees are what keeps you from being able to open things up. I hit driver or 3W off of maybe 6 tees combined and probably could have left either at home.

The course is challenging and in great shape right now. Greens are true. Marshals were there to keep pace.

There's plenty of water to keep things humid but it doesn't come into play a ton. Bunkers were in decent shape but wet from yesterday's rain.

Downsides were: no beverage cart #90+ degrees in the morning and humid# and a 5 some that I got caught behind late in the round #but in fairness, they let me tee off on 10 and I caught them on 5#. The clubhouse is dated and small, but serves the purpose of getting a drink. It has plenty of nice TVs.

I'll definitely go back. I'd rank Keeton Park on the Dallas muni scale in line with Cedar Crest. Better than Tenison Highlands, about the same as Stevens Park #but Keeton is cheaper). Luna Vista doesn't even qualify for the conversation.

Good Value Muni

Cedar Crest is a fun muni and a great value, especially compared to the other Dallas munis.

Tee boxes and fairways are in very good condition. Green conditions are spotty but they do a good job in placing the pins away from the rough spots on the greens.

At $18 (walking), it's a great value. Challenging course (short) that makes you use the whole bag. I'd leave the 3W at home and replace it with a driving iron or additional low hybrid.

Staff is nice and helpful, atmosphere is great.

Cedar Crest gets a bad rap on being in a bad neighborhood. I've played it several times and always felt comfortable and safe, usually playing as a single early in the morning..

Good Dallas Muni

This is one of the more popular Dallas munis, due to the attractive location and quality of the course relative to several of the others.

The course is relatively short (6,000, par 70 from the men's tees), but it's fun - elevation changes, some tight fairways and you need to really control the ball. It's not a masher's course by any stretch.

It has 6 par 3s and 4 par 5s. The par 5s are rather long (3 over 500 yards), which makes several of the par 4s pretty short (6,000 yards total).

It's a nice course to walk and has some attarctive elevation changes, which is not common in Dallas.

No driving range makes this a good place to play first thing in the morning. For some reason, probably location, Dallas charges higher greens fees for Stevens Park and Tenison Highlands. Cedar Crest is a better value and just as good of an experience.
