Callippe Preserve Golf Course
Played On 11/17/2015Challenging Local Course Fun to Play
Played as a single on a Tuesday at 10:30 and paired up for a foursome. Weather was great, no wind, and pace of play was much better than usual at just over 4 hours. Recent rains have somewhat improved fairways, but not enough to avoid hitting off packed dirt on numerous par-4, 5 holes (nothing new for east bay this year). The greens were in excellent condition and pin placement was especially tough, forcing many putts from above the hole with sharp breaks. Course layout has much elevation change, especially the back nine, so I strongly recommend riding a cart . Great combination of long/short par-3s, with numerous par-4,5s requiring carries over barrancas with careful club selection. No two holes play the same, each challenging and fun to play. Shot distance control is important on many shots and it is great that the carts are equipped with GPS and monitors. Highly recommend the course, although pace of play on the weekends can be brutal.

This course is very affordable and well-suited for beginners and high-handicappers. The layout is flat, easy to walk, has elevated greens and is relatively short with 6 par-3's. My wife and I are high handicappers and play routinely mid-week to work on improving our iron shots and short game. One pond on the course comes into play on holes 7 & 8 and the elevated, small greens require high approach shots to hold the ball on the greens. Pace of play is usually 75-90 minutes and always a good time.
