Panther Lake at Orange County National
Played On 04/06/2017Great shape, but not too memorable
Previous glowing reviews convinced us to play this course when it showed up as a Hot Deal. The large greens were in great shape and the condition of the golf course was excellent. The landing areas were quite generous, with enough bunkers and water hazards to keep play interesting, but the front nine was rather unremarkable. It is an enjoyable golf course, but I was a little disappointed that the architecture was not that memorable.
Hawk's Landing Golf Club
Played On 04/05/2017Excellent resort golf
This is a Marriott-managed golf course and the bag drop is right at the front door of the resort. It is fun layout and the conditions were the best we found all week. It is a fun layout with four tees ranging from 4746 to 6602 yds. and enough interesting elements for any handicap. I would definitely play again.
Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 11/10/2014Rather non-descript
There was nothing memorable about this golf course. It winds through a residential development that encroaches quite closely on several golf holes. It can't be too pleasant for the homeowners as many are very much in range of errant shots.
The course was in pretty decent condition, but I can't really recommend it with so many other options in the area. Everything is a bit tired. Even the sandwich at the turn was stale.
Indian Canyons Golf Resort - South Course
Played On 11/09/2014Excellent conditions, but wait for overseeding to grow in
This is a very enjoyable layout and the conditions were nothing short of pristine. However, cart path only resulted in a very slow round. I would definitely go back.
Desert Dunes Golf Course
Played On 11/08/2014Fun layout
Desert Dunes is not highly manicured, but in very good playing condition and the greens putted true. The layout has enough variety to keep all levels of player entertained.
The day we played it was a bit slow with a combination of local and visiting golfers.
Mystic Dunes Golf Club
Played On 05/20/2014Very good value
The greens had been aerated earlier in the week, but we knew this before booking the tee time. There appeared to have been some damaged areas on the greens probably requiring the aerating and topdressing. These brown areas were cosmetically noticeable, but they putted fairly true. It was hard to complain about a decent layout with some blemishes at such a good price. I would definitely play it again.
ChampionsGate Golf Club - National
Played On 05/18/2014Course is a bit tired
Fairly wide open and forgiving layout. The conditions of the golf course needed a little TLC, but lunch was outstanding.
Celebration Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2014Interesting layout with some quirks
They have reverse the original nines and the first hole is now more challenging than you would normally find to start your 18. Your approach shot may be blind if you end up on the right side of the fairway.
If you enjoy wildlife, you are in for a treat. The whole Celebration development prides itself in maintaining wildlife habitats.
StoneRidge Golf Course
Played On 3/26/2013Poor Man's Big Horn
This was a very surprising find in Prescott Valley. You will drive through fairly flat lands and trailer parks until you turn into the Stone Ridge development. The terrain immediately changes to extreme hills. This continues onto the golf course. There are several holes that have elevation changes of 50 ft or more, sometimes twice (50 ft drop from tee to fairway and back up 50 ft to the green). Don't worry, you won't be walking - carts are mandatory. Speaking of carts, some of the hills are so steep, there are speed bumps on the cart paths to ensure you are going slow enough for safety. It is worth the trip out to Prescott Valley, especially if you can't afford playing Big Horn in California.
The Club at Seven Canyons
Played On 3/25/2013Spectacular Views
This is a golf course that is all about the views. You could not be blamed for lifting your head a bit while playing this track. Even the view from the driving range is astounding. Some funky holes, but in general, very enjoyable. If it is your first time, I would recommend purchasing the yardage book. The player tips in the book are quite useless, but it is worth having the pictures to understand what lies ahead.
Coyote Lakes Golf Club
Played On 3/22/2013Lesson in public relations
This is an okay layout at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, the woman in charge of the bar/halfway was nothing less than toxic. I had to interact with her a few times, so I can't pass the attitude off to a particularly bad moment. The ultimate event was when a bottle fell over in the bar fridge, so she kicked it quite violently. I hope this person is related to ownership because management should never place such a person in the public eye, it left us with a very negative view on the day and the facility.
Legend Trail Golf Club
Played On 12/07/2012Look out for the back nine
Great example of desert golf. Excellent conditions and fun layout. The front nine can lull you into thinking you can actually play this game and then the back nine will likely bite you. Pay attention to ball placement on the back-to-back par fives #16 & 17. There are a few blind shots, but the black & white 150 yd stakes are usually a good target off the tees.
Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 12/02/2012Good course for a tune-up
The location is very convenient and the conditions are usually very good. This is a good course to start a southern vacation for a northern golfer to get the rust out of your swing. Some of the houses are rather close, so if you have a wicked slice, you may meet a few neighbors. It was very quiet for a Sunday morning, so it was a very quick round.
