Cypress Lakes Golf Course
Played On 09/24/2016Cypress Lakes
Flat and relatively uninteresting layout with plenty of wind to blow mishits even further off line. Overall, there are many better courses in the area. Tee boxes are in rough shape; lots of crab grass and uneven ground. Greens are decent but grass is pretty thin; doesn't really make a divot, more like a skid mark that's tough to repair. Not sure why "Lakes" is in the name as most of the water hazards are dry. Pretty much have to keep the ball in the fairways as the outside areas are either extremely hard dirt, dead weeds full of "hitchhikers" or full of grass clippings from mowing. Best part of the course was the sand in the bunkers being more playable than most courses in the area. Guess the USAF doesn't have much $$ to spend on recreation facilities these days...
The Reserve at Spanos Park
Played On 09/23/2016Very enjoyable course
Played on a relatively cool and windy Friday afternoon (12:16 tee-time). First time at the course and was very impressed with the courteous staff, nice clean clubhouse, and decently supplied pro-shop. Showed up as a single and was paired with a friendly twosome with previous course experience who offered some much needed advice on the few blind tee-shots. I found the course challenging, but fair; especially with the several water hazards sporting thick vegetation along the banks. Thankfully, they're in the process of removing some of this vegetation which I feel better enhances the visual challenges these water hazards offer.
Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens were in good to excellent shape for this time of year and maintenance workers were plentiful out on the course. Starter on hole one to pace groups going out and an active course marshal who we came across no less than 5 times throughout the day. Our group faced minimal delays and the marshal was very helpful in letting us know she was doing her best to move things along.
Overall I definitely recommend this course and look forward to my next round there!
Yocha Dehe Golf Club at Cache Creek Casino Resort
Played On 09/13/2016Great course!
Have played Yocha a number of times this year and it never disappoints. The course is always in great condition and pace of play has always been perfect. Great variety of tee-boxes for every skill level and each hole is interesting - absolutely love the opening tee shot! Free range balls, super friendly and courteous staff, outstanding clubhouse and amenities along with the best golf carts that have one of the best GPS systems I've ever seen.
In my opinion, Yocha Dehe is one of just a few "must play" public courses in the area.
