Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 04/29/2017Waste of a Saturday
In 20 years of playing golf, I've never seen such a dysfunctional course.
Booked a 10ish tee time on a Saturday and arrived to find that they had booked a tournament...on a Saturday...and booked a full slate of reservations on top of it. As you can imagine, this proved to be a terrible idea. We went off 30-35 minutes late and played the first three holes in one hour. So, from tee time to finish we can assume that 18 holes would take 6.5 hours. On top of this, the starter, Terry, wasn't only rude, but antagonistic toward the 30 or so golfers hanging around trying to get their round started. Other golfers were bonding over discussions of how much they disliked the guy, so I guess that's the silver lining for the day. Seriously, there's nothing like having a place take your money, disrespect your time and then have their employee be openly hostile to you to instill customer loyalty.
We played three holes and realized that the whole thing was a lost cause. To the pro shop staff's credit, they gave us a full refund without any hesitation and tried to make it up to us as best as they could. I'm sure it was a tough day for them, but they handled it well. However, you can assume that the management is clearly trying to squeeze every last dime out of this place at the expense of the customers.
In terms of conditions, the three holes that I played were pretty beat up. I'm no turf scientist, but I'm guessing it might have to do with sending out twice as many groups as they should have.
Don't play here. It's Phoenix; there are plenty of courses run by people who understand the concepts of space and time and don't double book their course.
