A good hamburger is a work of art.
It takes the right mix of toppings with a touch of love from the chef (or grillmaster) to make it come to life.
To compete with local restaurants, golf facilities have stepped up their games when it comes to food and beverage options. Clubhouse fare can't just be recycled hot dogs and pre-wrapped sandwiches anymore.
Many clubhouse chefs have focused on improving the staple of a golfer's diet - the hamburger. Toppings have moved beyond just the traditional cheese, lettuce and tomatoes into more modern and healthy trends. Think avacados and aioli instead of bacon.
While we haven't sampled them all, the Golf Advisor staff has stuffed down our share of burgers ... and burger offshoots. Here's a taster's choice of some of the best (not ranked in any order).

Tetherow - Bend, Oregon
Bend has developed a sophisticated burger and brews scene. The Bleu Diamond burger at The Row, the pub at Tetherow, will inspire your taste buds. It is a half-pound patty of Cascade Natural beef topped with fried sweet potato crisps, maple bacon demiglace, IPAioli and Rogue Creamery bleu cheese. Happy eating! - JSD
Nemacolin Woodlands Resort - Farmington, Pennsylvania
Deconstruction and reinvention are all the rage in the culinary world, and sometimes it results in some odd and unpalatable dishes. And you could be forgiven for thinking that cheeseburger soup, served out of an on-site food truck at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, would be one of those grim examples. But you'd be wrong. Nemacolin's cheeseburger soup is delicious, especially on a chilly spring or fall day. Pick some up before teeing off on Pete Dye's original Mystic Rock layout, or between nines at the newer Shepherd's Rock. - Tim Gavrich
Silverado Resort - Napa, California
The iconic "burger dog" became a staple at The Olympic Club thanks to Bill Parrish and eventually migrated north to Silverado. The creation - a burger cut like a hot dog and served on a hot dog bun - is tasty and easy to eat on the go. When major champion Johnny Miller bought Silverado in 2010, he made sure that the legacy of Parrish, his high school friend who has since passed away, will live on. - JSD
Beck's Prime Memorial Park - Houston, Texas
Houston's Memorial Park Golf Club just underwent a massive renovation to the golf course, but the clubhouse restaurant needed no upgrade. Beck's Prime is a staple for both golfers and the business lunch set. It's a simple walk-up counter with seating inside and out on the patio. As good as the selection of burgers is, one of their thick milkshakes after a hot day on the course is highly satisfying. - Brandon Tucker
PGA Golf Club - Port St. Lucie, Florida
The Taplow Pub, formerly the Champions Grille at PGA Golf Club, was renamed in honor of the Taplow Club in New York City, where a group of New York-area golf professionals and amateurs met in Jan. 17, 1916, a gathering that traces back to the origins of the PGA of America.
To continue the PGA branding theme, the pub burger is served on a toasted kaiser bun that is stamped with the PGA of America logo. - Jason Scott Deegan
