Best of 2016: Top 25 golf courses in New England

Golf in New England is defined by rolling terrain with fall foliage, plus classic architects like Donald Ross, Willie Park Jr. and Geoffrey Cornish. It's new breed features stellar resort and semi-private golf as well. Many of the state's best courses are 100 years old or more, and golfers love them despite their shorter yardage.

We've looked at states Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont to determine the New England Top 25, according to your reviews throughout 2016.

To compile our state lists, we used a similar method to that of our our national Top 50 ranking. A course's score is based on their overall (50%) rating and subcategory average (50%). Reviews are weighted based on how prolific that reviewer is on Golf Advisor, and a course receives a bump in their rating if their score is better than that reviewer's average score.

Pine Grove Springs, Carter C.C. The Country Club of N.H. and Hooper G.C. all have great courses and should be considered for interest and the fact that that Mother Nature was a major contributer in there design.
