100 days out: Gil Hanse and Mike Davis on Brazil's Olympic golf course

We're officially 100 days out from the start of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Golf has certainly been one of the most anticipated and newsworthy developments thus far, thanks to its return to the games after a 102-year absence.

Also, Brazil is building its first ever 18-hole public golf course, and the bidding and construction process was a laborious and, at times, contentious process.

The architect of the Olympic course, Gil Hanse, checks in with Matt Ginella on the status of the track 100 days out, how they plan to set up the course during the Olympics, as well as expectations for after the Olympic Games. Hanse was particularly confident that the setup committee will be able to present a lot of different looks to both the men's and women's competitors.

"The setup team was impressed with the flexibility that exists, and there are opportunities to really crank it up if we need to, but also take the foot off the gas if the conditions are difficult."

You can watch Hanse's full interview with Matt Ginella on Morning Drive in the video below.

USGA Executive Director and CEO Mike Davis is part of the setup committee for the Olympic course, and has a unique perspective, having hosted back to back men's and women's U.S. Opens on the same golf course in 2014, Pinehurst No. 2. Davis also joined Morning Drive today and had this to say.

"Simply put, we did learn that we here at the USGA have probably been setting up the U.S. women's championships -- whether that's the U.S. Women's Open Championship or U.S. Girls Junior Amateur -- probably too long in terms of yardage relative to the way the men were playing ... We took roughly 75,000 data points from those two weeks [at the U.S. Open], we really found out that normally we play 600 to 800 yards difference, and it needed to be closer to 1,100 yards.

Also this morning, Matt Ginella shared his thoughts on how the Olympic course will impact Hanse's career moving forward.
