This rare, nutty granola bar is a Cool Golf Thing

Eat up; you'll need your strength.
Yum.

Walking golfers yearn for courses where they can tumble off one green and onto the next tee. But at some layouts, the physical toll the walk takes is part of the experience. The Course at Yale is one of my favorite great, tough golf walks.

So is the Irish Course at Whistling Straits. Sure, you can take a cart, but it's a bit like cheating on part of the examination Pete Dye intends to put you through. Your quads may feel it a little, but relief is available in the form of a homemade granola bar you can buy at the halfway house. At $4, it's more than a common (not to mention dust-dry) Nature Valley bar, but the density of the peanut butter-and-maple-syrup mixture studded with oats, pecans, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries will have you eating like the richest bird in the world. The energy you get will soften the blows the course will lay on you.

Best of all, though you can only buy it at Destination Kohler, it's not one of those obnoxious "secret recipes." The recipe can be found right here.

The granola bar comes at an opportune time; the 10th at the Irish Course is an uphill hike.
