It's always fun to get on a private golf course, even for half a day. The immaculate conditions, the feeling of golf gravitas and a sense of refinement turn any opportunity to get inside the gates a special one.
It's even better when that course just hosted the US Open. That's the opportunity available thanks to the National Kidney Foundation, whose annual series of charitable golf outings always seems to visit several top clubs. Even with COVID-19 wreaking havoc on many events, the NKF has modified theirs for safety's sake. On October 26, they will host an edition of their NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic at Winged Foot Golf Club. One of the flights in the event will be playing the West Course, which hosts the 2020 U.S. Open September 17-20. Early reports suggest it will be a beast of a test, especially if the firm and fast conditions that have ruled the Northeast over a drought-dominated summer continue. The greens are among the most confounding in championship golf, which should make for appointment TV. Those who play Winged Foot a month later will likely have shorter rough to deal with, but maybe a few more fallen leaves. Winners of the event will have a chance to compete again at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Naturally, this experience doesn't come cheap. A foursome in the event is going for $7,500. If that's too steep, it is still worth looking into the other tournaments on this fall's NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic schedule. There's one at 2020 U.S. Women's Open host Champions Golf Club in Houston on Sept. 21. Foursomes for that event start at $2,000.
