It's hard to feel fowl playing the enjoyable Wild Turkey Golf Club at Crystal Springs Golf Resort in Hamburg

HAMBURG, N.J. -- Many of the best holes on the par-71, 7,202-yard Wild Turkey Golf Club at Crystal Springs Golf Resort sit in a bowl of land well below the luxurious Grand Cascades Lodge.

Architect Roger Rulewich did a great job in 2001 of taming a unique site with some nice heave and roll to it. The third hole and the stretch between Nos. 12-17 sit in this nearly treeless basin. It's an open, expansive setting that is both scenic and strategic.

Wetlands make for nerve-racking tee shots at No. 15, No. 16 and No. 17, a monstrous par 5 stretching to 577 yards from the blue tees. Two par 3s highlight the holes higher up on the ridge. A picture and a good swing are required at the 208-yard, all-carry tee shot at No. 7 over a rock quarry lake. The 255-yard par-3 10th hole seems to drop off the face of the earth, plummeting to a green well below the tee. This precipitous drop plays havoc with club selection, but no matter where the ball lands, the fun comes from watching it sail against the horizon.
