Take on Robin Nelson at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course in Kahului, Hawaii
The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course is located just outside Maui's main port city of Kahului. The club opened in 1999 and was designed by Hawaii-based architect Robin Nelson, who has a collection of credits throughout the islands.
The Dunes at Maui Lani is located in the sandy strip of valley land, the Kahului Isthmus between Mount Haleakala and the West Maui mountains. Because of this, the soil is very rolling and sandy, making for prime golf conditions. The golf course has four sets of tees playing as long as 6,841 yards down to 4,768 yards. Some holes are flatter and low-lying, running along the dunes, while others have more severe elevation changes, such as the par-4 10th hole that heads straight downhill toward the sea, and the ensuing 11th that heads back uphill.
The course finishes with a 588-yard par 5 that is guarded by water in front of the green, making for a great risk-reward finish. The club is also home to a restaurant, Cafe O'lei, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A golf school and lighted practice facility is also on site.
