Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course: Hole-by-hole guide

A player tees of on the par-3 17th hole along Lake Tahoe during a practice round of the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

One of the most memorable lakefront golf experiences in the world lies on the southern shores of spectacular Lake Tahoe on the Nevada-California border. Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is in rarefied air as the only golf course that borders this remarkable body of water within the High Sierra mountains at 6,224 feet of altitude. Each summer, it glistens on TV as celebrities compete in the American Century Celebrity Classic, featuring top stars from the MLB, NFL, NHL and Hollywood.

You can watch the 2020 event on NBC Sports and Golf Channel as well as streaming on the NBC Sports app from Friday July 10-12. Click here for schedule details.

Edgewood Tahoe opened in 1968 and was designed by George Fazio, and it was the first project he ushered in his nephew, Tom Fazio. Tom has assumed various renovation duties in the years since. The course plays just over 7,445 yards from the championship tees on gentle lakefront land that slopes up from the lake into the pine forest. Be warned the pine trees do come into play on occasion on approach shots and are also parked in the middle of some fairways like the 8th and 16th holes. It is a pleasant course to walk, and golfers with a left-to-right ball flight will enjoy the course's many gentle dogleg rights.

The back nine is particularly thrilling with two par 5s making up the last three holes, sandwiching a lakefront par 3. "Sailgaters" and beach-goers clamor for autographed footballs during the ACCC. During regular daily-fee play it's a peaceful scene.

The clubhouse at Edgewood Tahoe sits behind the 18th hole and overlooks Lake Tahoe and Brooks' Bar & Deck is one of the finest 19th holes anywhere with its combination of drinks, dinner and views.

A big change at the property in recent years is that this golf course officially became a golf resort with lodging onsite when the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe opened in 2017. Compared to the mega casino resort properties on the south shore, the 154-room Lodge is a more intimate and boutique property. Read more about the lodge experience here.
