Five great golf destinations for this fall

Autumn is a great time for a golf trip, thanks to cooler weather and the fall foliage in the northern parts of the country.

Also, you can find some great deals at some of our country's best golf resorts.

Recently on Golf Channel's Morning Drive, I shared five great places to play this fall, from the Northwest to Texas to the Midwest to the Northeast.

I've also received some updated golf package specials from the resorts. Watch the video below or scroll down to view my picks for some great fall getaways in 2015.

Cooperstown, New York

This is the destination for one of my favorite trips ever, when years ago, my parents and a few buddies and I got in the car and drove north to upstate New York and Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Historic Leatherstocking Golf Course, opened in 1909, is a great place to play golf and is located next door to the Otesaga Resort Hotel (bring a jacket for formal dining). Set aside a half-day to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame.

$485 per night (double occupancy) gets you lodging at the Otesaga Hotel, breakfast, cart and unlimited golf for both guests.

Sunriver Resort, Oregon

I talk a lot about Bandon Dunes in Oregon, but I also love the Sunriver Resort in Central Oregon.

$1088 gets you their "all-in" package: Four golfers, three nights in a two-bedroom condo and unlimited golf on the resort's four courses. That includes the top course here, Crosswater, which has hosted Champions Tour events in the past. After golf, the fishing is great on the Deschutes River, too.

Hotel Hershey, Pennsylvania

Hotel Hershey, also home to the Country Club of Hershey East and West courses, is a great spot to go in the fall, with great history. Ben Hogan was a pro here, Byron Nelson won the PGA Championship at the West Course.

It also has one of the best short courses I've come across in the country, Spring Creek.

$700 per person gets you three nights and six rounds of golf.

Omni Barton Creek, Austin, Texas

Fall is a great time to visit Austin, where you can combine golf with tailgating for the University of Texas Longhorns games or go to the Austin City Limits Music Festival (happening on back-to-back weekends this year, Oct 2-4 and 9-11).

Just west of downtown, stay at Omni Barton Creek, home to three courses on site (two by Tom Fazio and one by Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw), plus a fourth, the Palmer Lakeside, located just west on Lake Travis. $500 per night gets you lodging and unlimited golf on the resort's four courses, plus breakfast.

Big Cedar Lodge, Missouri

Home of the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf, Big Cedar Lodge is home to not only golf (including a new Coore-Crenshaw design coming soon) but a lot of great fishing and other great activities off the golf course.

$550 per person gets you three nights of lodging, two rounds of golf (Buffalo Ridge Springs and Top of the Rock) and a cave tour.

Owner Johnny Morris, from the area himself, put his heart, soul and a lot of money into making his home an incredible destination for everyone to come enjoy the outdoors in the Ozarks. (They're packed over the next couple months, so consider a Monday-Thursday trip.)
