First Tee of Greater Wilmington, North Carolina gets new short course designed by John Fought

A new three-hole short course for the use by The First Tee of Greater Wilmington (North Carolina) youth program debuted at Wilmington Wilmington Municipal Golf Course. The layout was designed by architect John Fought, who also did the restoration for the 18-hole municipal layout.

The new short course has multiple sets of tees as well as a short driving range and practice green.

"The short course will be a great place for kids to receive an introduction to the game and get a feel for how to play," said Fought, a former PGA Tour player, who has a strong design resume in North Carolina. "It’s a very cool facility as all three holes have their own characteristics and can be played from different distances."

The local First Tee chapter, once struggling, got a shot in the arm after the PGA Tour selected Wilmington's Eagle Point Golf Club -- which is 12 miles from the municipal course -- as the one-time site last week's 2017 Wells Fargo Championship. The tournament’s regular venue, Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, will host the PGA Championship in August.
