From Eagle Eye to Hawk's Eye: Golf Advisor's Top 20 Michigan Courses for 2014

No state is deeper than Michigan when it comes to great golf, particularly when factoring in what golfers are paying for a tee time. From a value perspective, few states can be put in the same league.

Michigan regularly places many golf courses on national rankings, whether it's Golf Digest's Top 100 Courses You Can Play ranking or Golf Advisor's top-conditioned and top 50 courses in the U.S.

In 2014, 20 Michigan golf courses earned overall scores of 4.5 stars or higher. On the list are a few well known names that make Top 100 lists. But beyond that, it's easy to see that in every little nook and cranny of "The Mitten" is a golf course that's leaving golfers very satisfied.

Northern Michigan destinations such as Harbor Springs and Gaylord boast ranked courses, as do the southwest and metro Detroit area.

At no. 1 is Eagle Eye, located in the backyard of Michigan State University. It's a tough design with a Pete Dye-inspired island green.

Homer223, a top 250 contributor to Golf Advisor, awarded the course five stars in his July 2014 review.

"The course lives up to its billing as one of the best in the state," he wrote. "Beautiful views, challenging, a wide variety of holes. It was expensive, but I thought it was worth it. I'll be back."
