Matt Ginella has been busy uncovering the latest news on in-progress and future golf course projects that buddies trips will surely have their eye on.
He shared what he's learned from high-profile projects in destination golf coast-to-coast, as well as Ireland, on Golf Channel's Morning Drive.
First off, golfers planning a trip to Ireland in 2017 may want to consider the newest course and hotel coming to Southwest Ireland. Hog's Head, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course near Waterville Golf Links, is set to open later this year with rooms onsite. Ginella broke the news last fall about Pinehurst Resort working with Gil hanse to redesign Pinehurst No. 4 as well as add a short course and new practice area. Work is already underway, and Ginella reports on phase one's completion, which affected Pinehurst No. 3 and Pinehurst No. 5.
While Bandon Dunes has continued to expand, most recently acquiring the nearby Sheep Ranch , Pacific Gales, also on the southwest Oregon coast, has been working to get off the ground. It's a big year in Wisconsin for golf, as Erin Hills will host the 2017 U.S. Open. Sand Valley, Mike Keiser's latest golf destination, opened its first course, designed by Coore-Crenshaw, for preview play this fall and is currently building a second 18, this one designed by David McLay Kidd. They are now determining who will build the third course. Ginella reports it's come down to three firms.
