If you're going to the Masters, you should definitely take your clubs with you. You won't get to tee it up at Augusta National during Masters week, obviously, but there are some choice golf options in the area.
One of those options isn't available for most of the year, but during Masters week, April 4-11, Champions Retreat, a 27-hole private club just outside of Augusta, is opening its doors for public play. It's the only club in the world with three nines, each designed by Jack Nicklaus , Gary Player and Arnold Palmer.
"Champions Retreat is the ideal destination in Augusta for Masters week," said general manager and host Cameron Wiebe. "Champions Retreat is the only place in the world were you can stay minutes away from the Masters Week tournament, play golf on three courses designed by past Masters champions and enjoy exciting entertainment options all in one setting."
Indeed, guests at Champions Retreat can rent luxury accommodations not far from the tournament, hold their own soiree at the club's brand new Party Barn or enjoy fine dining in the main Grill House as well as have a drink and pub food at the Bluff Overlook Sports Bar. There will also be live entertainment and other activities celebrating the week.
As for the golf, the courses are laid out among rolling landscape among Georgia Pines and pristine water features.
Each nine -- Nicklaus' Bluff Nine , Palmer's Island Nine and Player's Creek Nine -- are sculpted from the foundation of 365 acres along the Savannah River.
