The par 5s on Pearland Golf Club at Country Place aren't long -- but water, like this on the 476-yard second, makes them anything but easy. Mike Bailey/Golf Advisor

The second par 5 -- the sixth at Pearland Golf Club at Country Place -- also has water, but at 453 yards from the back tees, it's certainly a birdie opportunity. Mike Bailey/Golf Advisor

One of the Houston area's best values: Pearland (Texas) Golf Club at Country Place

PEARLAND, Texas -- Coming off a two-year renovation by architect Jeff Blume, Pearland Golf Club at Country Place has a new look to go with its slightly new name (it used to be simply known as Country Place Golf Club), and it's one of the best values in the Houston area.

Located just 20 minutes south of downtown Houston, the 6,625-yard, par-72 layout was renovated with new green complexes, new bunkers and new tees. The new Tif-Eagle greens are among the best in the region. The course also got new tees, which were grassed with Celebration Bermuda. And all the fairways were resurfaced as well with the original routing, giving the course an updated look and feel.

The renovation on the front nine was completed in late summer 2014, while the back nine work was done about a year later.

As for the golf course, it plays longer than its yardage, primarily because of the doglegs and water on half the holes that will force you to think twice about going for the short par 5s in two. And, fortunately, there are five sets of tees, with the shortest playing just less than 5,000 yards, so it's playable by all levels of golfers.
