The par-5 fifth at Moody Gardens Golf Course can play as long as 570 yards. (Mike Bailey/Golf Advisor) Old Kinderhook G.C. has plenty of elevation changes and lots of ball-eating vegetation when you pick the wrong club or line. (Kiel Christianson/Golf Advisor) What a view from the sixth tee at Wild Rock Golf Club. (Jason Scott Deegan/Golf Advisor ) In the northwest valley, Quintero Golf Club features spectacular views from many elevated tees. (Brandon Tucker/Golf Advisor) One of the best vantage points at Pole Creek Golf Club is the elevated tee on the par-5 ninth on the Ridge Course. (Mike Bailey/Golf Advisor) At 334 yards, the par-4 sixth hole at Widgi Creek Golf Club is short enough to lay up off the tee. (Brandon Tucker/Golf Advisor)

Power Rankings: Galveston, Texas favorite leads the top-rated golf courses of the month

It's been a devastating past week for communities along the gulf coast as Hurricane Harvey dropped record amounts of rain over several days. But residents are picking up the pieces and area golf courses are drying out and even reopening.

Our own Mike Bailey is a Houston resident and has been tracking the devastation and subsequent repair throughout the Houston area.

One of the communities that was a direct hit from the storm was Galveston, which is home to one of our Top 50 courses in 2016, Moody Gardens Golf Course. According to a review earlier in August, conditions were the "best I've seen it."

Fortunately, the Moody Gardens website said the course should reopen by September 4th. It was certainly on a roll with golfers prior to Harvey's landfall, so we're glad damage wasn't so great that the facility will be closed for an extended period.

You can view the ten best golf courses of the month based on Golf Advisor reviews below, which feature courses coast-to-coast. To see what golfers are saying about their experience, click on their course guide page to view more details.
