Power Rankings: popular Midwest gems top list for August

Chariot Run delivers an excellent experience in southern Indiana.

It's been a terrific summer for Midwestern golfers.

Two top regional public courses - one in Michigan and one in Indiana - lead the August list of Golf Advisor readers' favorite courses. Other honored layouts hail from prime summer golf locales like Massachusetts and Canada, while a couple warmer-weather locations are represented as well.

For the second straight month, though, an Indiana course is our #1. This month, Chariot Run, a Bill Bergin Design just southwest of Louisville, Kentucky, has risen to the top spot from the #9 position last month.

User SMPJAP, in a five-star review titled "Excellent tract," wrote:

From arrival to departure, the entire staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. We felt extremely welcome. The course itself was in wonderful shape with an excellent use of the terrain and the greens were exceptional. They rolled very true. We would recommend this course to anyone who loves the game of golf.

I played there Sept. of 17. Great golf course. Outstanding condition. Mostly links so a windy day will create a lot of havoc.
