The little town of Brooksville, Fla. located just north of Tampa, may be small, but is one of the top pound-for-pound golf cities in Florida. Consider the World Woods complex, as well as Black Diamond Ranch.
Nice elevation changes and a quiet pace set Brooksville apart. And among these top courses is the Pete Dye-designed Southern Hills Plantation, a private club that has been offering limited public tee time windows, and the word has apparently gotten out among Gulf Coast and central Florida golfers.
Opened in 2006, the course can play over 7,500 yards, and it's been a popular qualifying host for such events as the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open, as well as PGA Tour and Canadian Tour Q School stages.
"Southern Hills is a definite 'must play' if visiting or living in Florida," FEBJR73156 wrote. "It's a first-rate track, excellent condition, fast greens, great practice facilities with lots of tee box options for all levels of play.
