Power Rankings: Top-rated golf courses for the month of August

With the month of August in the books, let's take a look at the top-performing courses on Golf Advisor throughout the month.

The results show great ratings both in northern and southern states. No. 1 was Quintero Golf Club northwest of Phoenix, which has enjoyed a strong summer in the Valley of the Sun. Reviewer Shadetree , a top-250 contributor, was one of many who rated the experience five stars in August.

"Course very well maintained like you always expect from a Troon managed course," he wrote . "Lots of bunkers that have some of the best sand I have seen in Arizona. PAR 3's are the most interesting any of which could be classified as the signature hole, all with highly elevated tee boxes making it interesting with club selection and line."

You can view the full top 10 courses below, which were determined based on a combination of a golf course's overall and subcategory ratings (minimum of five reviews throughout the month required). Click on each course to see more ratings details.

"I can say without a doubt this is the most beautiful and breathtaking course I have played on and to give that some credit I also played Eagle/Vail , Rifle Creek , El Tigre and Kissing Camels to name some other nice ones."

Golf course review of the month: Lawsonia Links

Chicago-Milwaukee Local Golf Advisor DahlRyan reviews the Links Course at Lawsonia Links in Green Lake, Wis., which warrants consideration in top-100 public rankings:

Buddy and I played 36 at Lawsonia. First 18 was on the Links and it lived up to alot of expectations. For the 85th public course I was pretty impressed. Greens were that perfect condition that you expect when you go to a top-100 course. They really pride themselves on the undulating greens and the big mounds. I had one lie at the base of the mound and the mound was probably 8 feet high. Greenside bunkers you better be able to get the ball up in the air quickly. They do a nice job as a links course of providing you those great view of most of the property. Is this a top 100 public course? I am not sure but it is definitely right up and one you need to cross off the bucket list.

With the possible exception of exclusive Mountain Lake, there is nothing quite like the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club when it comes to golf in Florida. One of the hilliest courses in the state, El Campeon is also one of the oldest, dating back to 1917. Simply put, it has plenty of character with a finishing stretch among the toughest in central Florida.
