As much as Americans cherish a golf trip to Scotland, golfers throughout the U.K. also love coming to the U.S., especially the during the winter to spots like Orlando, Fla. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Golf Advisor reader Jade wrote us with the following question:
I am travelling across to Orlando from Scotland with my family this September for 3 weeks. While we are across my grandpa celebrates his 77th birthday on the 7th September 2016. I was looking to organise for him and the other men in the family to go golfing this day since it is his favourite hobby...We are staying in Legacy park so ideally somewhere not too far away?
Sounds like fun, Jade, and September, while warm, will hopefully not be as humid as July and August.
Legacy Park is in the Disney-Kissimmee area south of downtown, where many of the best resort courses in the Orlando area are located.
If you really want a splurge, Waldorf Astoria Golf Club and Tranquilo at Four Seasons both deliver top-shelf experiences.
Championsgate and Grand Cypress Resort are a step below in green fee, but still offer very good resort experiences. The New Course at Grand Cypress emulates Scottish links holes, so maybe avoid that, since you have these in your backyard, in favor of the 27-hole North/South/East Course.
Of the Disney options, I think your group will like the Palm golf course. It's a former PGA Tour venue that has some very pleasant Florida touches and isn't too tough from the senior tees, though there is plenty of water.
Lastly, Orange County National is a real golfer's paradise, with 36 championship holes (Crooked Cat and Panther Lake and a nine-hole short course, the Tooth. OCN is a very impressive operation.
