Dress codes are stupid no matter what they are or where they are applied, outside of obvious health and safety issues.

The idea that I need to have a collar to play golf is absurd.

The idea that pockets on my shorts impede the game is beyond ludicrous.

The color of my socks is 100% irrelevant.

I'm not wearing long pants in the summer, and jeans are far more comfortable and warmer in chilly weather.

I don't care to participate in anything that is elitist... I'm intrigued by golf, it's a game I think I would enjoy... but I refuse to bow to the arbitrary rules that have no bearing on the game itself.

Collars are just a more modern (1827), classist impediment to accessibility the elite put in place to insure the proletariat didn't attempt to mingle with their betters. It's arcane and doesn't relate to a modern democratic civilization. "Appropriate attire" should sufis. You can't be a slob, you can't wear a tank-top, but why not a nice collar less long sleeve jersey with a clean pair of slacks on a nice fall day.

I work at a course and play a ton. Cargo shorts should be ok, Jean's I dont like but we put up with them, but the slobs who show up with t shirts drive me crazy. What's wrong with having 1 place in society that upholds a minimum dress code. It was the first thing my friend who took me put for my first round taught me, that a collared shirt is a must no matter the level of course you play. It's not hard and every person knows it that plays. Black sock rule is stupid, though. And dont get me started on basketball shorts. Go to the gym if you want to be a slob. We usually tell them if they have one of those nice moisture wicking tees that the next time please wear a collared shirt, but last week a guy came in with sweatpant material shorts and a dirty white tee. I draw the line there and made him buy a shirt
