Oklahoma's WinStar World Resort & Casino is the home of the World Long Drive Championship (airing Sept. 3-4 on Golf Channel), but for those of us who can't hit the super-long ball, there's still a lot to enjoy once the long-bombers pack up and move on.
For golfers in the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, WinStar is a convenient escape right up I-35 and features not only great value, but a first-class academy and video analysis that you might only find at the Metroplex's finest private clubs. Golfers can make use of this technology for instruction or clubfitting, which features SAM, a Science and Motion putter fitting and practice studio, as well as TrackMan for ball flight analysis.
Not only is the Winstar academy available to guests of the resort, but it's also an affordable way to receive state-of-the-art analysis normally reserved for the pros, especially if you book the TrackMan & SAM PuttLab package. This package features a one-hour Trackman session and 30-minute putting session - 90 minutes total - as well as 18 holes of golf, starting at $199.
WinStar Golf Club now features 36 holes
A fourth nine was recently added to the golf club at WinStar, so there are now two, full 18-hole courses you can play during your stay, the Redbud and Scissortail.
Start at Redbud, which is considered the slightly easier of the two WinStar layouts. Tees range from under 5,000 yards to over 7,100, and fairways are generally more forgiving than its sister course. MiniVerde Bermuda greens and TifSport fairways along with recently-renovated bunkers.
Then, move on to Scissortail, a stellar layout that showcases the natural beauty of the Red River Valley and includes seven holes routed through trees. Elevated greens and narrower fairways will give any ability's game a worthy test.
I have played this course many times lately and fine it well worth the drive to Oklahoma. Course has always been in great shape and that helps me play better ... This course has scenery, lakes, good sand traps and smooth greens. Winstar has become one of my favorites. Also, there is the casino with a good buffet as well as other restaurants on site. Hit 'em straight and have fun.

WinStar features 1,400 guest rooms and 24/7 casino gaming - including over 100 table games and 55 poker tables. Guests can choose between the main casino hotel tower, or the Inn at Winstar, which offers a smaller and quieter escape just a short shuttle ride to the casino and entertainment.
