Sun Valley Resort's Trail Creek golf course in Idaho
SUNVALLEY, Idaho -- Trail Creek is the original 18-hole golf course at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., though the front nine dates to the resort's opening years.
The golf course in its current form, redesigned by Jones with the addition of the new nine, dates to 1980 with one exception -- a clubhouse opened in 2009. It changed the routing to make the opening hole a new par 5.
Trail Creek plays just less than 7,000 yards from the championship tees, the longest of four sets. As the name implies, a stream runs through the entire golf course -- and it's in play on most holes. The back nine rates as a bit more severe than the older front, with a couple elevated greens and a par-3 17th of more than 240 yards. The golf course finishes as it begins, with a par 5, affording a last-chance birdie opportunity.
The new nine-hole White Clouds golf course, across the street from Trail Creek, complements the older golf course.
