Beyond Austin: Tour the many different golf courses in the Texas Hill Country

AUSTIN, Texas -- When the Dell Match Play World Golf Championships debut at Austin Country Club, located west of downtown on Lake Austin, it will showcase the spectacular Texas Hill Country.

A.C.C., as its often referred to, is about as exclusive as Austin golf gets, as there is a reported 10-plus-year waiting list and $100,000 initiation. It's certainly not the only prestigious club in the Hill Country, which is comprised of 25 counties and lies west of Austin and north of San Antonio.

Throughout the Hill Country, there are various small towns like Fredericksburg, Wimberley and Boerne. Their populations pale in comparison to their nearby metropolises, but there is always a golf course nearby. Some are municipal and lower-end, while others are among the most exclusive golf courses in Texas.

This slideshow showcases the many sides to Hill Country golf, starting with Barton Creek Resort, located just minutes west of downtown Austin, to courses closer to Horseshoe Bay and Lake Travis.
