It's officially prime time in Phoenix-Scottsdale. January is always a big month in the Valley of the Sun. But this week, the staging of the NFL's Super Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. and the PGA Tour's Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale make this desert destination indisputably the center of the sporting universe.

And the area's many golf courses appear to be peaking at the right time, too. Five Arizona golf courses made the top 10-rated golf courses on GolfAdvisor based on recent reviews.

Courses scoring high over the past week range from resort layouts to overachieving, middle-class courses.

I live here in Mesa AZ and love it in the summer, I can handle the heat and sometimes have the entire course to ourselves, come play with us in the scorching Arizona sun...
