Torrey Pines North may be the less heralded of the two municipal courses at famed Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. But that is certainly a relative distinction considering its neighbor, Torrey Pines South, is a U.S. Open venue and the site of Tiger Woods' last major championship, won in dramatic fashion.
When Torrey Pines North isn't hosting the Farmers Insurance Open each winter, it is hosting an astonishing amount of public play -- 84,000 rounds annually. It hasn't received a significant update since 1958, and needed an extensive facelift, largely to help manage daily play. After a well publicized process, which included potentially using Phil Mickelson (read more here), the staff hired Tom Weiskopf to embark on a $12 million project.
The course reopened this fall and will once again host the PGA Tour in February. But tour pros weren't who Weiskopf had in mind most of the time during his work updating the layout.

Green fees at the North remain cheaper than the South Course. For non-residents, 18 holes are $100-125, while city residents pay just $40-50. You can view more booking details on the Torrey Pines Web site.
